first look: P7 Weapon Light from Peak LED Solutions

oh boy... I really had fun with this yesterday. My company has taken on the Peak line of US-made lights and had our first real look at the P7 series yesterday at a law enforcement trade show where I gleefully played with them for hours.

First Responder P7 next to a Pelican 7650. Note this is a side-button version. Also comes with a rear forward clickie option.

I'm very pleased with the throw/flood combination of this optic and can't wait to do some proper beam shots (soon!) The beam appears to be a somewhat defocused aspheric. On a close wall shot you can see a soft squarish shaped hotspot and tons of flood. The beam quickly turns into a massive flood. When shined onto my hand people all around our booth looked away in pain or squinted their eyes while saying something along the lines of "OMG!". and these are people in a very brightly lit room.
The amount of light is truly stunning. I absolutely can't wait to strap this to my M4 and run some nighttime drills.
These lights run on either 2 1850 Lions, or 3 CR123 lithium, or 3 RCR123.
uses a buck circuit and the P7 is driven pretty hard to really utilize the capability of these specially selected bins. Massive heat sinking is evident and note that the silver band will be blacked out in final production run. (just a couple weeks now).

How was the beamshape exactly?

Was it a hotspot with a huge amount of spill?

Or just a big defocused ashperic circle?

I'm hoping that this light has a similar beam pattern as the Malkoff M60.

Does it have a UI or is it a straight forward on/off?

It is quite ugly I admit, but if it gets the job done, I am all ears. Interested in runtime, too.

How about the tint? Cool or warm?

tint appears neutral/cool. not blue or purple.

Any more info on the weapon lights?

I don't get why you would mount your light on your weapon..

That way everybody can see where you point your gun.

When using deadly force you want to illuminate the threat/target to identify if you still have a threat. Example, The badguy has a gun in his hand you tell him to drop it, badguy drops the gun. Now if you can't see that the badguy dropped the gun and you shoot, you will probably get into a little trouble. Especially if you have witnesses stating that the badguy did not have a gun in his hand when shot. Most training will also advise to only blip the light and continue to move so the badguy cannot make out your location.

When using a rifle it would be very difficult to use any other method of holding a light. Two hands on the rifle, leaves you few other options. I guess you could use a Headlamp :)

I'm definitely a "function before fashion" type of guy but that thing is just ugly!!! Sorry..I'll be the first one to drop the "U" bomb! :crackup:

I'm comfortable with the ugly if there's all 900 lumens behind that collimator optic and huge heatsink. I'd wager a full review of one of these would change a lot of minds..

Heck yeah, I want beamshots.
I kind of like the utilitarian look of it.

I like the lights but the grip has to go. It should have finger groves on it or something like it, and when you push the buttons on the lower half of the handle it splits in 2 and bi pod legs shoot out from inside the handle.

FAB makes some cool grips like that although I cant help feel that a 1" light on an assault rifle will just look funny. I'm looking for a way to combine these dual P7's with a Foregrip Bipod. I was thinking of making a rail to hold a couple TK10's, but if I can find more info on this P7 setup I might hold off.

I sent Peak LED Solutions and MELTDOWN emails for more info or an update on this but no one seems to want to reply. Thank god Fenix has remote pressure switches cause I think I'm going to make my own.

I am thinking about buying it but I really want to know how well it throws. I think everyone knows it will flood great.

VERY SOLID construction- I have one of the first generation P4 versions- built like a TANK!
