By the way ven I'm on the Texas side of the pond. Anyone willing to loan out an old beater\user HDS I'd love to give it a whirl.
The saying "Thou dost protest too much, methinks" comes to mind.
Anyone that's kind enough to loan me an HDS, I will gladly send you my E01s as collateral. Ya'll know how much I love those damn things.
So what? 120 lumens is just as bright today as it was 6-years ago, so it seems silly to declare it "obsolete". Just because there are 2000 lumen lights on the market doesn't suddenly render my flashlight unusable. 120 lumens is more than sufficient for 90% of my use and adequate to acceptable for the remaining 10%; that was true when I bought the light, and it will be true 10-years from now. In fact, I daresay that the average person will find 2000 lumens less useful on a regular basis than 200 lumens, or even 20 lumens, so I don't buy into this notion that you're getting less value for your money if your flashlight isn't the brightest thing on the block. Maybe if you have a specialized purpose, like search and rescue, then you really do need 2000 lumens, or 20,000. But for the average Joe? Nah.
Upgrading lights to use new technology doesn't make them better for your existing tasks; it allows you to use them for new tasks that require higher output.
Says the guy in such a hurry to mention my name that he very clearly and obviously missed the post by the CPF member only two posts above his that mentioned the very "red herring" reason. :ironic:
Interestingly enough, tack on yet another HDS "user" that, rather than reading the OP -or even the thread title alone - feels the need to enter the thread to "defend" these lights as to why the OPer should buy one.
Amazing.
LOL! It's pretty common knowledge about the HDS troll. He's still rubbing ointment on areas that hurt after Henry had to explain to him why a home made styrophome integrating sphere is nowhere close to the accuracy of an actual integrating sphere. LOL! He takes things too personally. I tend to wonder why it takes someone 9 times to figure out they don't like a light. Seems to say more about the individual than the product. Oh well, he's our little troll and will pop out from under the bridge again in the future. Enjoy the sighting as they are rare and entertaining! LOL!

Cant we all just agree that HDS lights are the best and move on?? Jeez people.😂😂😂😂
Yes, you can come up with special cases where 2000 lumens might be desirable or necessary (I mentioned search-and-rescue operations earlier), but that doesn't change the fact that 120 lumens is literally more than enough for the vast majority of situations I find myself in, and I think I'm a fairly typical user. You cut out an important qualification I said in that post:
...
So yes, your 120 lumen light is just as good for old tasks as when you bought it. But it can't be used for illuminating things well at a distance, which might be something new you want to use a light for. Or inspecting things in the shade on a sunny day. With a 2000 lumen light, you can still use it at 120 lumens for most tasks, but can also use it for additional things that you simply can't do with only 120 lumens.
That's why I uprade. I'm sure my M@g from the 1980's is still fine for what I used it for back then. But I can't imagine illuminating stuff 200 yards away with it. I just didn't do that back then, because it was beyond the capabilities of the light.

I wonder why the HDS "zealotry" hijack almost every HDS thread, despite (like here) very clear OP and thread title intent to avoid that? It seems to me like their idea of justification for very high price they paid for IMHO ordinary, rather outdated flashlight?
This post pretty much sums up the mountain of dribble in this thread.
Personally I don't care what anyone wants or doesn't want to use but there's a reason why HDS is so good. It is what it is whether anyone likes it or not.
Most people are happy to justify why they don't want it etc etc but will happily spend the same on a few zebra lights or whatever.
The truth of the matter is that HDS is in its own superior league, let's talk about output even as you'd be surprised by what it can do with ~200 lumens.
Own one, don't own one whatever. I own a ridiculous amount of lights from the bottom to the top and what I've proven to myself is that HDS is super special and that's all that matters to me.
Now, by all means whoever cares to, keep dribbling spit.
"Why you no longer own an HDS?" is it in any way equal to "Why I do own one, and it is gorgeous, marvelous BLAH BLAH BLAH" ? :shakehead
OP:I presume you owned one but found it inadequate and sold it?
Or my other lights are better blah blah.....
