Re: High Powered "D" Maglite Drop in *Feeler*

I have a 1D cut to fit an AW C cell. Would that be enough to drive the light? I'm not sure how that compares to the 18650. If so I'm in for one.

I have another 1D that runs on 4AA Eneloops. Would that power the SST-50?

Almost... 2800mAh drive barely does the SST50 justice. I'd be willing to pay more to a modder who could get me up to the 4-5A drive range with multiple parallel drivers.

:)

The C Cell sounds more appealing to me than the D Cell. Get it to even ~3.5A on a C dropin and I'd be all over it.

Sounds like you're talking max 6v? I think 6AA in 3s2p would be best...
Also I don't see enough room in a drop-in for parallel drivers. Would changing a few resistors on an existing board be possible? (4-5 amps would be nice :devil:who needs runtime anyway)

I don't know about that....I've read with the bin I plan on using they output 600 lm @ 1.75A so 2.8a should give a slight bump to that.

The Driver input is 3.7v to 6v.

I'm interested for 1 drop in ,can alkalines drive this drop in on full power?

Yes........but not for very long. Nimh cells would run the light at full power no problem.

I suppose a "C"-version with a driver that takes 8.4V would touch all the right spots for a lot of people who have a lonely 2C just waiting to be modded. Like me :twothumbs

70 - 350 - 950 lumens? approx? on 4 x alkalines? (brighter on nimh)?

yes, id take 1 for sure :candle:

and maybe 2 or 4 more as gifts.

pott the electronics please.(happy to pay some extra $$)

will this dropin require modding the stock mag switch?

Really? $79? I spent more than that building one. That sounds like a bargain. Would you consider making any Direct Drive, so 3D or 3C NiMh cells could drive it to 5A, and use PWM to get the two lower levels? If that runs it too hard on cells fresh off the charger, maybe a resistor to keep it <5A? Keeping an eye on this thread!

Great ideas Mac!

Re: High Powered "D" Maglite Drop in *Feeler*

I am interested. Couple of questions though.
What would theoretically run time be on 3 d cell alkalines?
Will this work similar to Malkoff by just trimming reflector?

Thanks
Zach
