Yes, the Black is hard anodized. The black is a dye over the HA. It is a flat black that is really stunning. I highly recommend it. To me somehow the flat surface of HA really adds to the machined texture. So do not expect the black to look like a shiny black type II anodized bicycle part. IMHO it is way cooler in flat. BTW, the U2 is Type III Hard Anodized Black too.

The shop I use only does HA III. They are primarily a government contract shop. They do lots of helicopter parts and medical equipment parts in titanium.
