What's new on the McGizmo horizon?

Recently, I saw 1x 18650 Ti tube by Steve Ku, and it looked like a single tube not like double-part tube like TB did.
I was so curious how thin the wall was, esp near the head end thread. I asked questions here and there including Steve himself regarding this, so far no answers came back.

Not sure why FM can build a 18650 tube from Stainless but getting a Ti 1x18650 E-series tube is nearly impossible.

+1 I would like to know the answer to that too.

It is thin near the head in particular, I picked one up the other day. I'll try and get some measurements this morning - maybe photos if you are lucky, but don't count on it as I am heading out for the week before noon today.

Plan on using it with Haiku 6V head, also have delrin sleeve on the way.

.035" or 0.9mm at the head - including threads
twice that at the tail. Took photos with iphone will try to load this am.

Found the thread again..., came back up with the photos earlier and the site was down for mtce. Lousy photos, but....

I cannot tell how thick the threads are...

Thanks, nfetterly.
Wondering how deep the groove is...

Hi guys,
I do check in on this thread and do pay attention what is being said. I won't initiate or engage in discussing vapor, potential or otherwise so my contributions are null. As for an 18650 pak, it is my opinion that the wall thickness of the tube at the 13/16x20 thread is too thin even if one were to go with a smaller thickness O-ring to increase the rood diameter of its groove. IMHO, the appropriate move in incorporating an 18650 with a 13/16"x20 thread mate would be to change the genders with the female thread at the battery tube and male thread on the head of the light (like the PD and LunsSol systems). No joy for E-series.

One more vote from me for 1 x AA sized Ti McGizmo light.

+1

A Sapphire-like AA with high around 70-80 lumens, and low around 10-12.

It would probably displace a couple of my EDC's.

Sapphire like AA light is fine.

But, I would prefer the one with reflector. :)

So what you guys are looking for would be sort of a AA powered Ti Muyshondt Ion? Dual mode twisty, floody beam? Sounds cool to me. I don't know if it would be what I would necessarily be after next from Don if I were going to make the decision, but if he made one, I'd probably get one. Seems like a great EDC light.

Wouldn't even need to be dual-mode ... could just put a QTC in there for variable output (which works great in my Sapphire).

1. I would like the one with reflector.
2. PD style would be great, but if Don have decided never PD again, then McClicky pak style is fine, too.
3. 2 or 3 speed, doesn't matter.
4. 1 x AA sized prefered. :)

I have one of Steve Ku's Gavina 18650 tubes. They are thin and at first it felt very very light compared to say a 123 McClicky pack. However, this trade off is worth it, as the form factor is ridiculous. The battery just fits perfectly, and as a result, you have probably the smallest 18650 E-series tube possible. I can't imagine making one smaller. It's a great alternative tube to have waiting for camping, or any other application where more run time is handy. Maybe you cannot run it over with an automobile, but it's a great small body for such a beefy battery.

This tube switches seamlessly with all my McGizmo heads...Makai, Mule, etc.

I was planning on getting a FiveMega SS 18650 tube, but I am sure glad I didn't. I am not interested in forcing threads together to make things work together. That's not what lego is about. With the Gavina tubes (both the 123 and 18650), there was not an issue with any head I have.

I still prefer the single 123 e-sized lights the best. They are just made to join in on whatever the task, while still small enough to vanish into any pocket or bag. The Gavina in the 123 size is just about exactly the same size as a Haiku.

I did a photo thread on JD since I was banned for a week over here. It's in the torch section, and probably worth signing up just to see it (if I do say so myself).

The danger with a Ti tube that is very thin near the threads is not so much that you're going to run it over with your car. I take it that you'll probably try to avoid doing that.
More relevant is that if you drop it onto cement/tarmac from a height that it may shear at the thinnest point.

This is why Tranquillity_Base designed a split-series 18650 tube with an adaptor piece and other masters like mirage_man followed his example.
