This is strange: in the last week, I found about SEVEN different auctions for the same Surefire flashlights on eBay, and all new, the owners ALL stated, they won it in a lottery but "they don't have any purpose for it". All different sellers though.

STRANGE??!!

What's your general impression of this flashlight? Is it a good one for the money? Well, it's a Surefire so it can't be bad, but.... is this the Surefire LED-flashlight to have, when you want a compact one?

Then: is there any known issue of fake-L1 Lumamaxes?? I don't want a fake obviously :(

That does sound strange.

Seeing as I have four L1's, I may be biased, but I think its is perhaps the best flashlight ever made.

I have never heard of any FAKE L1's, but I have heard of fake ebay auctions, where you send money and never get anything in return.

@ Blindasabat:

OK, it is also a nice flashlight at the very least :twothumbs

Do you have any Fenix or Olight flashlight (or another with the Q5 LED in it)?

When YES, what's the color of the light coming from the L1 like, when compared to the Q5 LED? Is it more white than blue? In THAT case, I'll go for it ;)

Maybe people are dumping their L1 in expectation of the new LX1?

I like my L1, but it's too long for a 1 cell light, same length as P3D in fact.

OP said they all said they won them.

IMO a little common sense says this is dumb

Well it wouldn't be the first time seller either lied or copy pasted another's guy's description I suppose.

If I would have won one, I wouldn't give it away either... but there's always a chance of winning an auction on eBay still :p

But you'll have to be cautious there: it seems, there are 2 different versions out there.

One (being the older): 0,7 Lumens low / 15 Lumens High
two (the newest): 10 Lumens on low / 65 Lumens on High!

Does anybody know, if I'm right in these conclusions??

i wouldnt be suprised if people were indeed dumping them in anticipation of the Lx1

thier in for a heck of a wait though if history is to repeat itself..

@ JZMTL:

INTERESTING

Please tell me more about that LX1?? Should I wait, not buy an L1 and buy an LX1 right away?? What are the differences?

Thanks a lot,

Timmo.

It's the replacement for L1, check out the new surefire catalogue, it's a bit shorter, brighter, and look more like E1B.

Well, I fetched one a few minutes ago :p

This one is, just as the other ones(!) brand new, on the original cardboard. It should be the newer version with the 10/65 Lumen output.

I think, it will be a good work light. I need a flashlight at work nearly every day, to read imprints on small electronic parts, to check for visible damage on PCBs, to seek that lost screw on the ground, the see WHERE the ##@$ that nut fell into that big Yamaha digital mixer etc etc etc....

At the start, my colleagues called me a crazy guy with all those flashlights, but now I more and more notice "lost" flashlights from my desk.... a quick glance on the desks of three of them, almost invariably reveals: they "just needed it a little while"..... :green:
leaving me with dead batteries (as the runtime of the WF-501B I now use is only 19 minutes....)

So it's time for a SureFire LED-flashlight :twothumbs

@ jzmtl: I don't have a surefire catalogue, as I live in Europe. Seems impossible to get one here. As I see, improvements are not that big, that I would have to wait. I just fetched one from eBay....

One (being the older): 0,7 Lumens low / 15 Lumens High
two (the newest): 10 Lumens on low / 65 Lumens on High!

The version that truly had 15 lm maximum output hasn't been sold in a long time, and it would be difficult to find.

There is a Luxeon version manufactured in 2005-2006 that has probably 30 lumens maximum output. These are the ones that you have to watch for, so that you don't buy it while hoping for the newer Cree version (advertised at 65 lm, which is probably understated).

The new version has a black and yellow label on the right side of the package that states:

NEW
HIGHER OUTPUT
MORE RUNTIME

If this is absent from the packaging, then you are getting an older version.

I don't trust the eBay sellers to correctly keep track of the versions. I've seen examples where the eBay post advertises the new specs, but the photo shows the old model.

personal experience with items people won somewhere and dump them for sale are:

they "won it" when it "fell off the truck" or "used their own personal hand picked pocket discount" or something similar,

or bought it cheap from someone else, that "found it" somewhere.

especially suspicions arise when many people won the same item at the same time.

or person has other one also if you ask about it.
(how come they won 2? how fkin lucky are they! hah)

and when you ask where exactly they won it ..ask to see the raffle ticket or adress to link of the "lottery" site that states the winners and prices, they somehow seem to forget where that was.

-won it my local church charity event. "oh what church is it? i will gladly call the vicar for the warranty receipt." no he wont have it, and the church just moved and.. :)

if id win one, i would be really pressed to sell one. really have a similar light myself and no need for it and NEED the money asap and none of my friends/family dont need one. too many reasons to not sell it on ebay or sorts. im a packrat, hah.

@ Asdalton:

indeed, this sticker is on it. I looked for it indeed!
However, the description was 0,7 Lumen and 15 Lumen. So I asked the seller, to look in the manual, the result of that question can be seen below in the auction at "Fragen von anderen Mitgliedern".
It MUST be the right version ;)

You can see it here:

If you're waiting for the LX1 or LX2 like me, you'll likely be waiting until fall '09 (or never).

From at least two reactions I have the idea, that it wasn't a bad idea to buy it. It seems as if Surefire announces something, but sometimes never introduces it or much later??? I'll see if the successor of the Titan will ever hit the market.... this is a MUST-HAVE :)

Seeing what happened to UA2 and UB2 I'm not holding my breath for any unreleased SF, even if they say it'll release tomorrow.

There have been multiple versions of the L1. Check out this thread. Read down a bit and you'll see.

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=151425

I have the L1 (2, actually--a cree version and a Lux3 version). I've also got a fenix with a q5. I've got an LD10. The L1 has a nicer tint, and seems brighter on high than the fenix on turbo. YMMV. I will say that they're both nice lights, just depends on purpose and preference. I like the L1 interface best, but the fenix is nice when you're already carrying AAs for other stuff.

The L1 is my favorite light. I use the older one, with a 1.1 low, every night to check on the kids.

I'm excited about the new version--but hope they don't ruin it. I'm not thrilled with the e1b (looks too much like other lights) but might try it out. We'll see.

Strange indeed.
Probably all fell out of a truck that said "lottery" on the side.
I would only buy a high end flashlight from a reputable dealer, when you facture in all the bids on some of those items it might actually be cheaper to purchase elsewhere.
Just my opinion which is worth about a bucket of used CR123's:laughing:
