Hitthespot and TC, I do think the speed debate has been tossed out with revealing of StarHalo's charts...lol. Whatever the ambiguous :.5 past light" and "hyperspace" are, it was more than enough to cross the galaxy in short order. ST dude don't cross galaxys.






I think it's funny what you stated about Vader and Skywalker especially since Vader was supposed to be the prodigy who changed everything by restoring balance. I agree that skywalker punk wouldn't have a chance against the sith characters. Maul would chew him up.



On a final note, it crackes me up that we sit here and try to talk about this stuff with reason ... LOL. It makes me smile at our childishness, but I don't mean that in a bad way. I'm just not so sure that we ever really escape our inner child but I don't think I'd want to.

Myself and another guy at the office used to talk about Independence Day, (the movie) when one day out of our own amusement we started pun talking as if it were completely real. One of the young guys walked in on our conversation, I think he was 16 or 17 years old and worked for us part time, and we kept up our moronic ramblings in front of the guy. Finally having enough, the kid voices up and says, "yeah but that stuff is all fake guys!" As if rehearsed we both laughed and said to the kid, "you don't really know what's going on do you?" which made him really question what he knew. We kept that alien nut act up for about 6 months until finally the kid just told us we were crazy. We finally gave up the joke and the kid, Matt, confessed to us that we kind of "had him going" with all of our technical banter...lol. I'm not sure how funny that is now 2nd hand, but it sure was good for some eye watering laughter at the time. Talking about sci-fi as if they were real in this thread reminded me of that. :D

You know, now that I think about it, in ST, they had a whole series because of a trip 1/4 of the way across their galaxy, and the estimated time to do it was 80 years at top speed. OTOH, the Borg had Trans-warp conduits, allowing them to go that far in much less time. Sounds kinda like hyperspace now, doesn't it? :poke:

On the other hand, if Jedi's were able to infiltrate the Borg and kill the queen I'm not sure were that would leave ST? It just seems like SW still has the upper hand in a straight out "knife fight" so to speak.

Darth Vader can't even handle a couple of Japanese cops so I'm not sure how he or any other Jedi / Sith would do against a cube-full of Borg :naughty:. It IS the real Vader, isn't it ???

I just wanted to tell you that it's been so hot here that I've been shooting inside the house for the 6 weeks. If I stand at the back of the master bedroom wall and shoot toward the door to the garage I can get about 15-16 yards. If I open the door to the garage and shoot to the metal overhead door I get another 6 yards or so. Chances are I'd never miss the target bag but if I did it would go right through the the garage door and endanger someone across the street. I used to have a 4x8 piece of plywood backstop out there but it's gone now. I'm back to 15 yards for the time being but it's sure better than not being able to shoot at all.






Lux, I'll check out the moives and see if they're available at the Redbox that I use. Thanks :)

In a way you're pretty lucky Patriot, we've had a cold, wet summer here and the rest of August isn't looking too good. I got out to shoot with friends about a month ago but haven't done since, it seems to have been raining every time I've tried. One of my friends has just bought a house with a long garden so I'm hoping the weather will improve and we'll be able to shoot there once he's in and settled.

Oh yeah, and Galaxy Quest is definitely worth a look. It seems to be showing on one of the UK channels every few months and I've watched it more than a few times but haven't got tired of it yet.

lol, I'm not a Trekkie or anything, I just love the technical aspects of both series. Like how in Star Wars, the giant Star Destroyer ships actually have atmospheric flight ability. Or in one episode of Star Trek, a fleeing criminal inside the Enterprise finds a teleporter that's been powered down, so he connects a phaser to it and the phaser powers the teleporter. Now that's some power density..

have you guys watched "Fanboys" out on DVD now? It reminds me of Galaxy Quest.

Haven't seen Fanboys, but Galaxy Quest has some hilarious bits to it..

Back to the OP:

At the end of "Revenge of the Sith" (Ep. III), only C-3PO's memory gets wiped. R2's stays intact.

Yoda and R2 do recognize each other, but they don't say (well, beep) anything about it.

I just looked it up on wookiepedia and you right on about R2's memory being intact and C-3PO's being wiped.

Between the fact that Return of the Jedi being on right now and all this talk and the fact that my computer crashed (using parents) i think i break out my Xbox for the first time in 8 months and play some Republic commando.

The transporter is so ridiculously impossible that that comparison is nowhere near adequate. Apparently it would take an incredibly huge (like multiple times the total energy that the sun will produce) to break down a human body. Of course, there is also the Heisenberg uncertainty principle (which also makes the whole thing impossible), which they conveniently fixed with "Heisenberg compensators."

In The Return of the Jedi, when the emporer is thrown down the reactor shaft (or whatever it is), why doesn't he just use his "force powers" and fly back up? It has been demonstrated multiple times that at least Jedi can "fly," or at least "force jump" pretty high, so he should have been able to come right back out of the reactor shaft after Vader through him in.


As for a competitor to the death star:

V'ger! Seriously, the length of this is measured in AU, or astronomical units. 1 AU is the distance from the Earth to the sun, or 93 MILLION MILES! V'ger was apparently 82 AU in the original Star Trek: the Motion Picture, but apparently they revised it to "only" 2 AU, which 186 MILLION MILES in diameter!

That's technically not a fair comparison since V'ger is a self-aware entity and not really a spacecraft, but yeah, it's huge.

Okay, now that Independence Day aliens have entered the fray I have a question. With all that technology wouldn't the aliens have auto targeting lasers?? I mean seriously. They shoot those squeeze toy sounding green beams everywhere and don't hit jack. And then there's the aliens in "Signs." Are you telling me they're going to conquer earth with hand to hand combat because of some nonsensical theory about polluting the planet? Yeah right, they're about as dumb as the Independence Day aliens.
