Li-ion "D" cells

The main reason you won't find Li-ion D cells is that D cells are 1.5V, and Li-ion is 3.6V. You can find NiMH D cells, which are 1.2V, though these seem to have fallen out of favor. What application are you trying to solve?

D is just a designation. And yes, there are d sized, or 32650, lithium ion batteries. Using 32650, should easily net you something on a google search. How good they'll be I don't know, none of the big manufacturers make them in this size.
32650 would be too long wouldn't it? D size would be the 32600. I can find those for sale in lifepo, at least here in germany. One I see is sold in li-ion, but its out of stock.
Yes you're right. I messed that up. In some lights that would fit but the 60 mm long is correct

As desert.snake says, most (all?) of the lithium 3v batteries in that size are primary, non-rechargeable.
Be careful with the Saft -- they do not support a high current draw, and also have an uncommonly toxic chemistry (Li-thionyl chloride). Some good properties for low-drain, long-life purposes, but not a good choice for flashlights.
If you really want a rechargeable in this format, your best bet may be to find a parallel carrier for 3x14500s. It's not ideal, but it gives you the right chemistry and voltage, and it's rechargeable.

Why does he need 3V cells? He's asking for lithium ion. If you can find 3.6v 32600 that's what you want. 32650s will work in something with springs too. Like a maglite in some instances

Oh sorry, I don't think I noticed the word "rechargeable" at first. 3V batteries are also lithium. Here 3.7, but a few mm longer

HKJ found a large variaration in capacity between the two Soshine test cells. Way too large to safely run (unprotected) cells in series
Unless you find protected cells, I'd buy a few 32600 and test them for 2x cap matches

You could run AA eneloops in 3 AA to D Series adapters.
In this case I think 18650s in a spacer would be better. Just turn around the tailcap spring to make up for the added length. And I've gone the 5 cell bulb route. The 6 cell xenon is the better bulb in my experience. The pr version. I hear the bipin is even better

Below is a video showing the use of two 26650 cells in a Maglite D cell.
I have few of these:
Bored out 3C M*g to fit 2x26650 or 2x21700 in PVC tube.
Outside barrel grooved for better grip.
Hard anodized.
Switch contact with flat top or button top batteries.
No further modification needed.

5mega, running 2x protected cells are you using ML stock heavy coil tail contact spring?
Or do you machine a Cu disc, to fit on spring end, acting as a buffer against soft cathodes?

These are new older 4C with 2" head, shortened, rethreaded, inside bored out (to fit protected 26650) and outside grooved incand M*g with "C" in front of serial number. (Thick wall tubes)
Tail cap and spring is not machined or modified.

So, these are complete nos 4c modded to take 2x 26650 or 21700 with sleeves. Sounds good to me.. Where can we see photos?

You do not see a lot of them cuz no reputable brand (lg samsung, sony, panasonic, sanyo) makes them. there are some on the market, made by others, and some are not bad at all, but there isn't really a big demand for that size. i still have 3 out of 7 that i had (4 failed). but when they go i'll get 21700.
