What would get you excited about flashlights again?

i missed this thread since i don't visit cpf nearly as often. i'd probably agree with most of monocrom's thoughts, including "goatee". as far as the flashlight industry, it's similar to every other hobby out there; unless there's innovation, it eventually gets stale. even smartphones feel like...

Where Have the Good Threads Gone? CPF Kinda Boring Lately?

I wasn't aware of the adventure forum. I looked through the posts and most are about travel or activity tips. I would probably agree that there are too many subforums there right now. I'd prefer to see a board (in CPF proper) called Flashlight Stories. Let carrot moderate and encourage people to...

Where Have the Good Threads Gone? CPF Kinda Boring Lately?

I have long held similar sentiments but just accepted it as part of the evolution of the hobby and the forums. I contributed a few stories to carrot's collection but haven't had anything worthy of posting in ages. I don't have time to bump into Ron Darling at the movies anymore because the kids...

Hurrican SANDY 2012 - Prediction as to LIGHTS OUT?

Back on topic... Speaking of washing, Coleman used to sell a battery operated shower. You warm up some water, submerge one end of the pump in your pot/bucket and the other end has a shower head. There are always the disposable hand/foot/back warmers if you're desperate. Public housing...

Hurrican SANDY 2012 - Prediction as to LIGHTS OUT?

If you've got water and a gas stove, you could boil lots of water. Might need to light the burner with a match. A generator on the fire escape probably isn't feasible and you wouldn't want carbon monoxide fumes that close to your window. I didn't lose power but I did get a chance to run up...

3 Watt 1AA torch Super Bright LED Flashlight $1.48!

ordered and received five. one of them has a tempermental switch. quality and beam are acceptable for the price. my biggest complaint is the smell of the rubber in the tail.

    Modding Surefire U2?

i've got an old u2 sitting in the milkylabs right now. my request was for a combination of flood and throw using the mc-e. i'm guessing you should be able to get what you want with the help of either a new reflector or optic. be patient with milky since he probably has a backlog of mods.

    absolutely the smallest LED flashlight?

i don't understand the application but, as zeruel pointed out almost a year ago, the abitax is tiny. it won't last long or light up much but it does meet the stated requirements. i have one attached to a zipper but it usually just hangs there.

**Updated with photos**NYC tunnel tour(bring flashlights!)

some pics to supplement cosmo's collection - it's a busy avenue even on a sunday morning the approach down a flight of rickety wooden stairs it's about 0.4 miles of darkness. the markers in the distance are incandescent lightbulbs.

**Updated with photos**NYC tunnel tour(bring flashlights!)

thanks for the excellent find and pre tour advice. for those considering the trip, cosmo's descriptions are spot on and his photographs far surpass my own. crawling into the manhole was definitely a treat. bob diamond was a great guide and the tunnel is obviously a source of pride and good...

For those that know NYC, your advice please

How about those Packers? ;) As far as the original poster, NY is very safe (as long as you're not glaring at people on the subway, carrying your wallet in your back pocket, etc.) and there's also so much light "pollution" that a flashlight really isn't necessary unless you have a specific task...

    Sold/Expired === Drake / Draco Payment === (PART 3)

i'm a little late to the party but i'm happy to report that modamag is alive and was able to sacrifice time out of his busy schedule to send over one of his masterpieces. the fit and finish are excellent and the altin coating is eye catching.

    Larson's corn maze

nyc. it wasn't too bad a drive up 684. does anyone know of comparable night mazes in the area? do you want to use your lights or do you want to be frightened?

    Larson's corn maze

i wasn't sure if she was being tricky or simply highlighting that lights were required for the night maze. i glanced at the box briefly but not carefully enough to tell what kind of lights they were. they sort of had the shape of an inova but were teal colored and plasticky. in all fairness...

    Larson's corn maze

there are never enough opportunities to justify high end lights when you live in a big city unless your vocation requires it. we decided to take a trip to larson's moonlight corn maze last night based on inspiration from a couple previous threads...
