To say the lead the entire module has become defective, the light flickers, for example if you hold it very still and tap the light,"while illuminated"with you other hand it flickers. I unscrewed the head and looked at the module then shook it there is a rattle inside. what can be done here?

Thanks

If you have a Streamlight warranty station nearby, you can take it there, or you can send it to Streamlight's repair department. It should be covered under warranty, but if it isn't they'll charge you $45 for the lamp assembly (at least that's what their sales department told me.)

What brand batts are you using?
Try a different type of batteries. The negative contact on the module is a ring and it doesn't like batteries with small negative contact area, Panasonic batteries for example.

The little rattle is probably the small black hydrogen absorbing pellets.

I've done a number of magmods, and whenever I apply sudden accleration or deceleration along the axis of the light (ie, set it down on its tailcap), the light flickers for a fraction of a second. It's normal. In my case, the cells keep traveling down against the tailcap spring while the flashlight body has stopped - breaking the positive contact. Even that massive maglite tailcap spring has to give a little when the weight of the cells rushes against it.

There may be nothing wrong with the LED module. It contains a little catalyst pellet designed to neutralize hydrogen emitted by the batteries during normal use. This enables the light to be safety rated for use in explosive atmosphere environments. It is normal for the pellet to rattle a little bit.

An issue I've discovered with this light is battery fit.

The space alloted for the batteries is a little big, at least for the batteries that come with the light. With the supplied batteries, there is a slight battery rattle, to the point that I don't like to carry the light in the long tool pocket of my carpenter's jeans. That causes the batteries to clank back and forth with every step. Carried in a back pocket, or in its holster, the rattle isn't noticeable.

Very occasionally, the light won't switch on without being tapped. This has happened to me twice while using the light hundreds of times over a period of several months. Somehow, the batteries have just enough room to get slightly misaligned inside their compartment. One tap fixed the problem both times.

I think this issue could be eliminated by inserting a piece of thin carboard down one side of the battery compartment to prevent the batteries from having enough room to slop around.

I removed the head on one of my SL PP 4AA Lux's, shook it, and there is a faint rattle in there. Sounds like it could be the catalyst pellet ringzero alluded to in the above post.
Sounds like you have a battery contact problem.

I just shook my ProPoly every which way as hard as I could, and the light didn't flicker for even an instant. There was battery rattle and, I suppose, pellet rattle, though.

Yeah, I too can't make mine flicker by shaking it.

Turn on failure occurs at very low frequency: one failed turn on out of hundreds of successful turn ons. Each time a slight tap fixed the problem immediately.

I suppose I should try my idea of inserting some sort of spacer into the battery compartment... However, the slight battery rattle and very occasional turn on failure haven't been enough to motivate me to try it, so far.

Really, these are minor issues in an otherwise great light.

No problems here loading batteries. Not once I got the hang of it. I've got 5 with this body style so I've had pratice. Just hold the light like you normally would for use, then turn it up like you were going to look into the beam, the body will be at about a 45 degree angle with battery alignment positioned over and under. This all of course, with the head off. Drop 2 batteries down the bottom noting polarity. Drop the other 2 on top of these, reversing the polarity, and they should slide down in without problems. Be carful when screwing the head back on that the battery contacts align ok. I like to turn the switch on first to make sure it starts to light up as I'm twisting the head back on so as to not over-compress the bottom springs should they not line up properly.
