I purchased a LED canister light that appears to be based on the OSRAM E3A module. I do have difficulties with it and it is not under warranty anymore.
Considering I have all the toolings at home to make a nice light (including a milling machine and lathe) and that it sound like a fun project, I would like to make a new light head to replace this one.
Well... I just spent a few hours looking at information on these forums and we can get lost easilly!! There is a LOT of information! And I do have several questions.
I would like guidance on where to start. I know I need a led module, optics, a converter (if not included with the led module), someway to ensure proper cooling and what else?
I remember when I have a DIY halogen light, the reflector I used was 6 degrees... it seems that the narrow reflectors for the led modules are 16 or 18 degrees (which is quite a bit more flood). Am I wrong?
The module from LuxRC Lab sounds great... but it is only 20mm in size (I was expecting somethine around 1,5" in diameter).
How narrow is the beam on the DX 5?
Did anyone make a light based on the OSRAM E3A module? What parts go with it and are the parts available for consumers?
