Hello,

I have a 17.5mcp spotlight with a 12 volt 7ah SLA battery that came with a 300 mA trickle charger. Would it be okay to use my Thor's 1000 mA K-tech adapter to charge it? I would like to be able to charge it up faster.

Thanks for any help!

From my triton2 manual

For 12V 7Ah (7000mAh) lead-acid field batteries, a slow charge current value of
C÷10 is recommended, which would be (7000 ÷ 10) = 700mA or "0.7A". A faster charge current value of C÷3 can be used,
which would be (7000 ÷ 3) = 2333mA or "2.3A".

Thanks FredM

So would then my 600 mA charger from my 10mcp Thor be fine for the 7ah battery in my 17.5mcp spotlight? (It is the closest one I have to 700 mA).

It sounds to me like anything between .7A and 2.3A is fine.

My POB has a relay that shuts off the 700ma charger when a certain voltage is reached. If your chargers are just simple timed chargers you might want to make sure you don't overcharge. Or if you really want a fast charge get a hobby charger and charge it at 2 amps.

Thank you for your reply!

I will be using the 1.0 amp charger my 15mcp Thor came with, it really needs a faster charger.

I have a battery tender that I think charges at like 2 amps, I put a plug on the thor for it an it works great.

yeah i forgot about that. I had one for my motorcycle, you can just leave it hooked up all the time and it will always be full charge.

Be carefuly charging SLA's. They're easily cooked dry. If you don't have a smart charger in the adapter, or in between the battery and the wall adapter, don't use what didn't come with the light.

Even motorcycle or car 1A trickle chargers are too much for a 12V 7AH SLA to be hooked up continuously.

I might just use the 1.0A charger for a short period of time when I need to charge up the light fast.
