18650 body for LS27?

Hi,

I feel like an 18650 body for an LS27 would be wonderful; was there ever such a thing offered? Or perhaps from another Ti builder? Reason being, that extra runtime would definitely be worth the added size/weight. I had a LS27 that had been modded for greater output on high, but then the runtime was a bit shortened of course.

I would imagine a piston body was never made, but perhaps a non-momentary 'dumb' body that could be used to make the LS27 a simple 2-stage twisty?

I tried to use the 18650 LEEF body for the 27LT. I had to modify it by shortening the neck a little so the head would make contact with the internal rim.

Well it works, but not 100% with the PD style heads. It works perfect with my LS20. The PD-S works on high and has to be fiddled with to get low. The Ti S27-Cx2 works on high, but again it has to be fiddled with for low.

I'm thinking the issue is the battery making contact with the solder blob. Because the LEEF body has an internal rim to take the place of the piston, the nipple of the battery needs to stick up a little more or I need to extend the solder blob on the PD-S and the Ti S27-Cx2.

Anyway the LS20 works perfect as it has a larger solder blob and it is my light of choice so I am happy. I cannot try the LS27 as I just recently sold mine.

Wow, look at that beast! Very cool =) Thanks for the info!

If you're OK with a 17670 (and don't already have a Cx2 pak), you can use a stock 27LT body. Just as Drywolf described with the Leef body, you have to overcome the gap caused by the extra o-ring on the 27LT head. However, the piston in the stock 27LT body makes for an easier solution - just add a spacer under the piston (I used a nylon washer). I tried it with a LS27, LS20, PD-S and Al PD, and all of them work fine, with both levels.. Obviously, there's no momentary, and it's not an 18650, but it's still a runtime improvement and you won't have to permanently mod anything.

Ooh, interesting! Thanks for the tip! The 27LT bodies were anodized alu., though, correct? No Ti ones?

Btw, you forgot another important product of our great state - flakes =) (land of fruits, nuts, and flakes)

Yep, HA black. There are a few Ti 27LT prototypes (three, if I recall correctly), but they don't change hands very often.

Two of my five 18650 cells have the nipple high enough that the LEEF body works perfect with all my McGizmo heads, 40% ain't that bad.

Very interesting, drywolf =) But they don't have that in Ti either, right? =)

Thanks for the info on the 27LT Ti protos...I would imagine that it would be really expensive then, huh gswitter?

I don't think there is anything in Ti to fit the 18650. I just bought a Ti-PD-s as a mate to my Ti-PD-s mizer. I'm thinking of selling my S27-Cx2 as it has a similar beam and I have the 18650 body for loonnggg run times. It fits the 17670 and has a clicky switch to boot. Watch for it on B/S/T maybe.
Happy New Year!
