Today I bought some new 18650 Li-ion bare cells, LG-chem brand. They have the height of 2 x 123 but, to my surprise, are two millimiters wider, so they do not fit any of the SF lights. There is any other use in "standard" light? TIA for any suggestion.

Anthony,

Aside from some Copia (and Pila?) flashlights, I think you are going to be limited without doing some modifiications. I haven't tried but I think the Pelican M6 battery barell can be bored from the rear to accept these. There are other likely heavy wall battery tubes that may serve as well. Good luck and be safe!

Thank you, Don. I do not have any milling tool nor the intention to do it... I'll wait for the 168s to fit the SFs. I believe that 8 x 18650 will end up in a nice halogen spotlight. Thanks for the advice about bare Li-ion safety, I already have the controllers with the LT chip.

Regards

Second Kevin,

Actually the name says it all - 18xxx is 18mm wide, 17xxx is 17mm wide - unless you bore the light out the 18mm parts won´t fit as well - the 17500 / 17670 are the ones to look out for to replace 1,5 or 2 123s respectively.

Wohoo - there are 123-sized Li-Ions listed at Lisun - wasn´t Peter selling those Lisun 123s lately - can anyone check with them ?

Klaus,

Be wary. The front page say's 123 Lithium Ion, but click for details and the battery shows up as a standard Lithium both in the pic of the battery (text on battery) and text heading. Further, there are no details regarding charging etc. I suspect it is a standard 123 Lithium, not Li-ion.

A 123 sized Li-Ion would be handy though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think they are a little confused on their site but:

voltage is right for Li-Ion
discharge curves are right for Li-Ion
capacity (650ma) is right for a Li-Ion
