I was wondering if anyone has made a 2 x AA tube for the E1E light?

I would assume the MNO1 lamp would run fine on 2 AAs, with more runtime than one would get from a CR123a cell.

Then again, maybe the voltage wouldn't be quite high enough to get it to work, or it would work for some time, but be significantly dimmer.

I did a search and didn't find anything on this, so maybe there is some reason like the voltage or something else I'm not aware of that would explain why this wouldn't work. Maybe this switching of CR123a and 2 AA cells only works with LED lamps. I'm a rank newbie when it comes to incans.

Maybe a 10 lumen lamp that would run on slightly less than 3v would work? 10 lumens for, what, maybe 3 or 4 hours on 2 AA vs. 15 lumens for 1.5 hours on 1 CR123a? Might make some sense.

If it would work, though, wouldn't it fix the only real shortcoming of thie E1e, the lack of runtime?

There's only one way to get guiltfree Lumens from your E1E: buy the best RCR123s money can buy (I mean AWs) and buy one of those 3.6V Lumens Factory lamps for the E1E / E2E:

Look for the HO-E1R and/or the EO-E1R.

This way, your E1E becomes an even brighter light and... you don't have to buy those expensive CR123As anymore :caution:

AAs are pretty close to length of 18500 but slimer. So, 2x18500 body will work using some spacer sleeve to stop rattling.
Alkaline AAs are good for up to 1 amp but anything higher than that, I would use NiMH AAs.

Thanks guys, maybe I'll grab one of FiveMega's 2 x 18500 tubes. I've got a pile of Eneloops and L91s, it just might work.

Ages ago Dspeck made a tube called the UBH that could hold 2xAA or 3 x CR123s. It worked pretty well on the KL1 LED head.

I think there are better complete 2AA light options out there now that would cost less than the tube alone.
