2AA or 3AAA? CREE or SSC?

How much are you willing to spend?

I would avoid 3AAA powered lights because that usually means higher initial output (usually direct drive with 4.5v if 3 Alkaline batteries) but a very quick drop in output(AAA alkaline batteries can't take high draw).

Out of the three, I would go for either one of the DX lights.

thank you for the reply.

I'll stay away from 3AAA in that case.
My budget up to $30.

So far I don't see any CREE Q5 powered by 2AA or 3AA :candle:
Which CREE P4 or SSC 42180 is better? both are 3W

tnx

There is at least one that has a Q5 LED, but it us double what you are willing to spend. It's the Fenix L2D-CE Q5.

The Seoul would be a bit more efficient then the Cree P4 and have a smoother beam. But it is all up to you to decide which one you will buy. I'm betting that neither one is driven at 3w.

/stay away from any lights that use carriers for the batteries./

please elaborate on this statement as I just finished ordering a
Romisen RC-L3 (3xAAA) from Qualitychinagoods and am curious to
why carriers are not preferred.
wee! first post outta the way! great forum guys, i'm learning so much
after poring over this forum the past two weeks.
Happy and safe holiday to all!!!:twothumbs

staying away from battery carriers

i base this on quick beams authority. he thinks they're
too prone to damage or too hard to refill in the dark when the current cells are empty.

its just one more thing to go wrong with a light. especially cheap lights (not to say yours is cheap)

in other words what is the upside to a carrier....basically nothing....but plenty of downside.

Well... WF-606A is a decent 2AA light. Fairly bright also.
It's probably the best out the the three you mentioned.

That Kaidomain SSC light seems not too bad.
But it's limited to just 3 x AAA's and that's it.

DX 3W SSC light isn't that bright it seems.
It seems to be less bright than the WF-606A.

BTW..

Romisen RC-KF uses 3AAA and looks good. (DX LINK)
It should be noticeably brighter than the WF-606A.
It also can use 1 x 18650 or 2 x RCR123A. Not bad! =)
Romisen makes decent quality lights so it should be ok.
Carriers are okay. No real upside to it but it's not bad.

hi,

Thanks everyone for reply.
DX has CREE Q5 emitter that cost about $4. more then P4
Why DX or KayD doesn't make own 2AA with Q5 instead of P4?
Or it just will take time to get it?

Can P4 be easily replaced by Q5 in 2AA flashlight?

well the advice t satyaway from battery carriers is a sound one.

And I will one more...

I have the DX SSC and I had a bad luck with it. Quality is chinese low. This is an adapted Luxeon light and it shows in how the reflector seats ontop of the led. The later is a star board held with screws infront of the flashlight body.... hmmm

On the other hand I have experience with 2 Ultrafire 606 and I woudl suggest this. Much better than the MiniMagLed
