You can get a 4AA extender for the Javelin? Where? I HAVE to have one! All I could find is a 3AA extender. And while that gets me a NiMH light that can easily run standard Li-Ion drop-ins, 4xAA would probably get me a little more brightness and/or runtime.

BTW, the 3AA extender seems to be slightly shorter than 1 AA battery. So it looks like two of these might be too short to run two extra AA batteries.

There is no 4AA extender AFIK. You would need two of the regular extenders but I think I read somewhere recently that they have been discontinued. I could be wrong.
Two extenders would be perfect for two extra AAs - that's how they are designed.
Don't use 4AA on any of the standard Dereelight dropins (Javelin low voltage) though or you will fry them.
