4 micropucks

I am wondering if 4 micropucks (2 in series in parrell with another 2 in series) will be ok off 4 D cells (6v). And the output would be 6v and 700ma? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Can anyone make sense of my babble and answer my questions?

Yes I understand your question. No, it won't work. For this type of scheme to work [the series connection part] the outputs would need to be electrically isolated from the inputs. It is unlikely that the micropucks are designed this way.

I haven't actually seen the circuit design but I would say probably yes. Since these are stepup convertors, the output LED voltage must be higher than the input voltage.
 
You can probably use two cells to power two MP in parallel, then another two cells to power another two MP in parallel, then connect these two banks in series, then /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wasn't there a guy who built a mod using a 2D Mag and 3 MicroPucks? He wired the Pucks in parallel to the power source (the 2 D cells), then the output of each puck went on to power a single 1W LS each. I think it worked well.

But I don't think it is possible to input 6V to 2 pucks in series. As for the output... I don't know if the pucks are current controlled, voltage controlled or just straight boosted. It looks like it is straight boosted to give a set amount of output current for a set amount of input voltage. So you could increase the current flowing to your lamp array by wiring the outputs in parallel, but I don't think you can increase the Vout by wiring them in series. But what do I know? If that is what is in a micropuck, they should operate in parallel just fine.
 
What if we hook two LS in series with single Micropuck? Will the Micropuck rise the voltage to 6,x V to achieve that 375 mAH current? Will the unit stand that wattage?
 
No, I don't belive it would.

The Micropuck is *not* a current regulator. Or any sort of regulator as far as that goes. It's a simple up converter. That's why it dims out rather than pull more current from the battery as it ages and the battery voltage drops.

If you could get 'something for nothing' from it like you're wishing for, for sure the maker would have discovered it and be advertising it, right?

For instance what you propose would be the same as driving a 5 Watt Luxeon to half current, right? Why mess with his much larger, more expensive, higher voltage 'puck' for that use?
