This would be used for dark nights while camping or hiking where a lot of light is not needed. I am currently using an ARC AAA-P and I am completely happy with it. Will the #4 wide angle eiger throw just as good?

I would say that the throw would be better with the Peak wide #4 than your current ARC AAA-P due to it being higher output. I have a #3 wide with the newer optic and it will illuminate objects 40-50ft in total darkness with no problems. If you are looking to illuminate objects more than 40 feet from you then you might want to go with the medium beam instead. The newer optic is pure flood with no hot spot. It is the ultimate task light.

I second De-Lux. By far one of the most usable task lights I now own, I have been carrying my #2 Eiger wide everyday and it's my new and only EDC for the most part. I've used it to light dark paths and it has been just fine, although a bit diffused. A #3 or #4 would probably give a bit more kick, but at the expense of runtime.

I don't have a peak but I have a fenix e01, and the peak is definitely more of a see-everything light. My #2 seems just about as bright.
Have you seen Rider's thread on the wide optic? http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=277722

My new Peak #Sub Zero wide illuminates quite a bit even from about 25 feet away...

Here's a shot about 10-15 feet away. For a light with a lower level than #0, I'm surprised it has ANY throw at all.

It's not often that we hear the words "throw" and "10-15 feet" in the same sentence. But the Sub Zero might have more uses than I ever thought possible (and probably some pretty impressive runtime as well.) I'd be very interested to hear just how well so low a level of light actually works on "dark nights while camping or hiking where a lot of light is not needed." After all, some of us have reached the age at which vision (or at least the ability to detect light) is already impaired to a degree, and might really need a bit more light. Quite honestly, for outdoor use I doubt that I'd go below a level 2 without either a LiIon or a 2XAAA Penlight to boost its output.

I have both the #1 and #6 Eigers in medium and would have to say that, based on my #6, the #4 would be overkill when camping in no light conditions. The #1 extends that #0 throw out to 20-25 feet and is very bright to night adapted eyes. Given the shorter runtimes of the higher levels, I would say either a #1 or #2 would give you plenty of light and insane runtime in a very compact package.

Thanks for the input everyone

I wasn't really looking to preserve night vision, I have a red led light for that.

Like I said I am very happy with my ARC. I just wanted a better color, cleaner, wider beam. that can throw just as good.

Sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere, but which configuration on the Eiger would be the most comparable to an ARC-P? Thanks!
