500 led ShowerHead

Fair enough - I didn't mean to bite your head off, it's just been a bit of a day for repeat postings.

Yes, the Search can be a bit tricky sometimes. I often have the opposite problem: looking for something that I know was posted a while ago but Search can't seem to find it. It's a question of finding the right search terms I guess.

A good tip if you're posting videos is to look for the unique part of the link - the NkkU0UO3sek in this case. That will turn up any previous references to it even if the previous threads have different titles or describe the light using different words.

Before we laugh too much of him I'd like to say a few things too.

I'm in no way affiliated to him. It's not me, my friend, family or similar.

But from what I see I must agree it look quite well made and with great knowledge. One thing I'd done differently was to protect the LEDs better.

As for output we can do a bit of math. Since we don't know what LEDs he's using and at what current we make an estimate instead. The Fenix E01 delivers ~10 lumen with a single 5mm LED. So not to overrate it we calculate 5 lumen pr. LED. That is in total 500*5 = 2500 lumen!
Yes it's a shower head but none the less still very impressive.

As for cooling 5 mm LEDs do not require cooling under most circumstances. Yes 500 close to each other does concentrate some heat. But please remember the surface of which the heat can dissipate is quite large. If designed correctly the resistors on the back which are there for smoothing reasons since no two LEDs are alike don't need to dissipate much heat. Then a suitable switchmode supply to drive the whole deal and to keep power waste and power requirements down.

Changing to another battery technology should be no big deal if you build it yourself. He probably just used a lead acid since it is very cheap, readily available (chargers too!) and very safe

And besides this light already has a thread here:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=208507
And it popped up here too although that thread is closed.

This guy that made this is Dutch, he posted how he made it at the electronicsforum www.circuitsonline.nl .

Cant remember the threadname but the forum has a good searchengine.

I think I remember the leds were 22.000 cd each, 530 in total.

I wonder how much money he spent on that so it could be as big your leg and get maybe a 100ft of throw? :ohgeez: What a tard lol

This was just un-necessary. Calling a person who may or may not have been aware of better technology available retarded really speaks to your character.

What would be better would be (to merge this and the dozen other threads on the same topic) to invite this guy to CPF. If this is what he can do with some thought and patience, imagine what he could (or may already be) do(ing) with better technology.

So who's the "tard" now...

Maybe i should clarify my post before i **** off some other sensitive person, it is great that he is into mods, but my point is why waste so much time and energy on such a useless light? What could you possibly do with it other than take up a lot of space? It was meant as a joke (hence the LOL):crackup::crackup:

No key ring attachment, no clip, no anti roll device, what was he thinking of. I bet he doesn't even do a battery for life programme.

I give this dude a **** load of credit. Anyone can slap together a light with a few XP-G's or whatever, whoopty doo. This guy took the time to solder five freaking hundred (actually more than that IIRC) LED's!!! I myself am a fan of the kind of beamshape 5mm clusters put out, yeah they don't throw, they're like the shotgun of lights. I'd love to see this thing with Nichia GS's or Cree's latest 5mm's.

IF you had bothered to search or simply followed the link in McAllan's post above you'd know (CPF username) mwhens has posted on CPF and explained why he made it. :poke:

Agreed that these many duplicate threads should be merged.

I disagree about merging threads on this one - I suggest that this thread just be closed. There is much better info on this build in other threads than in this sorry excuse for a thread.
Reported.
Edit: In spite of the well-meaning efforts of a few folks here, that is.

I agree with Kestrel. I'm closing this thread as being of no value, given the rude comments made by one member here.

mrartillery... your insulting and dismissive remarks were wholly unnecessary, and have tainted this thread. You are warned that any further such comments will earn you a suspension.
