Plastic 535 from Feebay Oz for $18 dollaroos to my door .
Carbon 535 from Ali for $14.40 dollaroos to my door .

Plastic 535 - The action is superb . No play / wobble etc .
Fidget friendly .
Blade - Mystery steel
55/50HRC - 55HRC file bites / 50HRC file skates
200 slice fail on the rope , edge seemed to have just gone away !

Carbon 535 - The action is good . there is a little vertical play @ the crossbar lock .
Fidget friendly .
Blade - Allegedly D2 (?)
55/50HRC - 55HRC file just / and only just bites the blade .
250 slice fail on the rope , seems to have suffered edge deformation .

I know I know , I wasn't supposed too .... But they were so cheap ! I mean ................ $14.40 for Carbon , that's crazy . ( And that's Oz dollaroos ) = $10.23 USD to my door !

It’s nice that you have the files. I’m guessing 50 to 55 hrc hits the 200 to 250 mark whatever the steel is suppose to be.

I have seen more .. From 55/50 .. Unfortunately I don't keep records of the results ( Maybe I should ? )
+ How long have I had the Tsubosan files ? ( Hmmmm )

I had to check -- My Flissa 9 that I keep close to me ( 650+ on the rope ) , yeah .... the 65HRC file skates with no hint off doing anything .
So .................. it's hard , really hard . ( According to my HRC graded files )

Also found a no name fixed blade 8cr13mov @ 55/50 that did a roller fail at 350 ...

Butt & it's a huge butt ! On average the 55/50 hardness blades are in the 150 to 250 range with a 200 slice average . ( Just going over old knife tests )

Ok , I have gone back over the results with HRC ... and it's interesting !

The Boker Plus lockback comes to mind ..

60/55HRC with a 200 fail .. I then put a 500 grit diamond cut edge on the knife for a 500 slice fail ...

I have gone over this in the past , the knife wants the edge that it wants to perform it's best .. As a owner / user , you need to test to see what the knife wants .
If you own 300+ knives , that might be a Biblical PITA . So you might default to 1000 grit @ 18 degrees . ( For testing purposes )
Oh those nasty VARIABLES ! or as OutDoors55 likes to say ( repeatedly ) - Geometry !

From my testing I’ve found (mostly) that knives perform better on the paper test after cutting rope with a 3000 grit finish. However in real terms with a lower grit they cut through the rope much better and for longer. I think the lower hrc steel I’m mostly testing, the steels break down more on lower toothy edges that seems to catch the paper and stop the test.

I have sharpened down to 80grit ... ANd on paper it's like a micro hacksaw ..
But then on the rope , it cuts . Meat , rope , wood = Cuts really well . It is how ever a Micro Hacksaw . ( That works )
So if smooth is the only way ? Sometimes I do a polished edge , unfortunately most of the time it's just Bling !
Looks great , feels great , but at a cost of some edge retention .
