5w & BadBoy 500 question

Does anyone know if a single (non-rechargeable) 123 can provide enough current to power a BB400 or BB500 driving a Lux V?

I'm pretty sure quite a few people use that setup already.
I've seen a BB500 luxV aleph on 1x123 a few days ago.

Do you think it would woprk reasonably well on a rechargable Li-Ion?

if around 30 min runtime is what you considered reasonably well, then yeah. I think rechargeable 123 can handle up to 30 min of burn time. Assuming your 5W has 7V Vf at 500 mA, and 80% efficiency, 3.7V input from liion, your converter will draw about 760 mA from the battery.
Assuming the battery has 600 mAH (rechargeable liion 123 is rated at that cap), take at least half of the cap as lower bound and you get 300 / 760 = 23 minutes.
Well, it clearly shows how important it is to get low Vf lux5W. hope it helps.

I have a Aleph 2 5w BB500 on a 1x123 body.It works great and it is very bright.Brighter than my TW4 was.I also use it on a E2E pack.

Seriously though, I have my sights set on an Aleph2/5w/500 - I just need to figure out whether I want to use the BE1 body I have coming and then whether to build it myself or pay McGizmo for a custom-built specimen.

I won a new-in-box iPod Mini at a conference last night and will probably be selling it here, partially to support CPF (notice I haven't become a supporter yet) with the rest going into a Aleph and possibly a litte Peak LED for an even smaller EDC light. I know little about calculating current but two different Lux-V BB750's that I have draw 1.8A measured from a JSB123 protected cell or a Pila 168S. I did some runtimes and if I remember correctly, it was 12 minutes! The protected JSB123 are just under 500mAh measured with a CBA from West Moutain Radio.

In addition to that, kj has some great info and runtime graphs on his site (you might want to chelck it out) showing a BB500 mostly out of regulation on 1x123 with a reasonable runtime of about 30min.

I use such lights often and I am very pleased with'em and a McE2S cap.

Should be well above one hour as it is driven lower than the L4 that has one hour ...
