huh? so the batt manufactureres are still telling lies
Some are so bad it's almost funny.
DX has 14500 cells that are rated at 900mah, which is by itself a gross overestimate considering they usually have a capacity of 550mah or so.
They recently added 14650 cells to their collection. Do the maths and it's obvious that the volume increases by 30%. All other things being equal (and they are, with the same chemistry and diameter) 30% more volume roughly equals 30% more capacity.
And yet, the 14650s are rated at a whopping 1600mAh.
They probably have about half that capacity.
All this doesn't really bother me that much, because I've learned to judge cell capacity with common sense... and even if that fails I have a RC charger that tells me the capacity of the cells as it charges them.
Joe Average, however, is likely to be severely misled by the ratings.
I've recently had to explain this all to a friend who had replaced his original 550mAh mobile phone battery with an eBay special "1800mAh" one and was wondering why he wasn't getting three times the runtime.
