I have an old cat eye bike like that I would like to make brighter by changing the bulb. It is a 6v light that can take 4D's in a holder and then powers a medium sized bi pin bulb.

Does anyone know what bulb would make a good replacment lamp for this light?

the bulb in it now is twice to three times the size of a AA mag bulb for reference.

You Should overdrive it and us a AW6V or a 5761 :D Both Nice bright blubs :D

Problem with the 5761 is that 4 alkaline Ds won't come close to being able to drive it with any efficiency.

You have to figure out what batteries you can use first. If you can fit 5 ni-mh sub-Cs in there, it'll drive the 30w bulb with ease, whlie giving you about 1/2 hour to 40 minutes runtime. This may not be enough on a bike

I'd suggest a generic 10w (2000 hr halogen) G4 bi-pin halogen bulbs overdriven at 7.2V - 8.4V, using ni-mh AAs. This will give you about 2 hours of operation on 6 2500mah AAs, or over 4 hours on 12.

Something like this would also work w/o over-driving:

But on any long life bulbs (200 hr +) you'll need atleast 7.2V to make decent lumens.
