so i got a new 90mw enVee... just some questions on its and usual 90mw output... so far, i cannot light matches... but the only ones i have are white tipped that i color with black marker. would this me the reason why they are not lighting? it may just be burning the marker away before it can light therefore, hitting white before it can ignite.. also.. how far away could you cut electrical tape?and lastly .. regualy computer paper.. can this burn or is it only mine that cant.. o btw, im using energizer rechanrgables.. will it output alot more if i use e2s?

I use Energizer 2500mAH rechargeables on my enVee 100.

I can light matches with mine, if I color them black.

90mW may not be powerful enough? Try another brand of matches.

Rechargeable batteries dont help. Chances are each one is only giving 1.2volts. The best batteries (non rechargeable) give closer to 1.6/1.7 volts for a total of 3.3volts or so in an envee which will make a difference.

As for burning things.. You don't stand a chance with anything white. Try something dark or black, preferably with a matt finish to it.
My 100mw envee didn't light matches either, but then I have only tried it with one type so far. It certainly goes through electrical tape and dark plastic bags with no bother though..

never mind guys. it was the batteries!.. i had charged new ones for the moment but they had lost charge during the wait.. now with like 3/4 charged 2500mah recargables, it can light a match in under 5 secnds from 2 feet away!.. i cant wait to see wat it can do with non recargables or e2s.

Crailtap25,

Yes, with Energizer e2 or e2 Lithiums you will light a match in well under a second at about 5 inches away coated black with a marker.

I have been able to light a match with my EnVee 90mw at 2 feet.

Thought I would let you know. Batteries ...No the right type of batteries are Everything....and 1.5v each vs. 1.2v each (rechargable) makes the differance.

With the black tape, try it about about 4 inches and work your way out. Please wear Laser glasses if you do close up work with your EnVee.

I'd try using some good batteries, that's the easiest thing to try first.

Secondly, I remember there being some issues with resistance in the tail cap. Check for threads on that topic. If the batteries aren't it, that's also a likely cause. If I remember correctly, the fix for the cap issue was pretty easy too.

Edit: I just did a thread search and didn't come up with anything. I could have sworn I remember seeing something about that though. I'll keep looking.

ok, i learned that the dimming is normal, one last thing ( i hope).. wehats the best way to clean the lense? i used a microfiber cloth and it still has some scatter to it.. any other suggestions?

Madz told me you touched it. That means there's oil on it, which a microfiber cloth will not completely remove.

Try dipping a cotton swap in rubbing alcohol, then rub the lens with it. Then wipe it with a clean cotton swap, then blow at it with compressed air. Don't blow with your mouth! Try this a couple of times and it should work. There's no need to buy a new lens.

k thanks... your post on removing a 80mw module saved my life..lol.. ok so now i have some things to get at the store soon... o and btw, people have said that you have recored power outputs for each laser by serial number (that you checked with your coherent), do you have mine if i giove you the serial number?

You can clean the tailcap where it meets the positive end of the battery, since it's brass. I used rubbing alcohol and it took off the oxidation. Try that Crailtap25...

John..

I've found that Kirkland brand batteries (Costco) work really well in my 90W. Last a long time, too. Regarding matches, I've found that different brands also make a difference. I currently have some supermarket-bought book matches (red) that ignite very easily, without any marking required.
