A 9P with a pocket clip is a D3 (discontiued, looks like a E2D on steroids), I guess home-improvement is the only way to fix a clip on the 9P.

The D3 is discontinued, but still available in a few places. The D3 is, in fact, a 9P with a pocket clip.

Not much help with the pocket clip situation if you already own a 9P, but a very nice alternative if you do not. A very nice light, too.

The D2/D3 bodies have the attachment point for the PocketClip.
In every other way they are the same as the 6P/9P.

that is a nice picture of the d3, but what is the actual mechanical/physical difference that prevents the 9p from using the pocket clip?

The 9P body does not have the attachment point into which the PocketClip locates.
This attachment point is part of the body since the body is machined from a single length of bar stock. (It can not be added to a body that does not have one)
