I am about to drop a small chunk o' change on six "D" size LSD batteries, and my choices seem to be either the Accupower Evolution as seen here

or the Nexcell EnergyON as seen here

My only experience with LSD cells has been with Sanyo's Eneloops. So, a few questions:

1) Has anyone out there conducted tests with both these brands and compared them, in the "D" size, low self-discharge varieties, and found one to be "better" than the other?

2) Can anyone with several months (or more) experience positively recommend one over the other, and if so, why?

3) Is there a third alternative I am missing with equal or greater capacity and/or equal or greater charge retention?

A third alternative would be 4AA=1D adapter. The capacity will be "close", but you have to make sure that 4AA will fit in your light.
You could also use tried and true 3xAA=1D adapter - it will fit in regular D lights, but offers less Ah.
This approach will let you use best possible AA cells (Eneloop or whatever)

I currently use Nexcell EnergyON C - nothing to report
Maybe I will get Accupower Evolution for the next mod and at least compare C size cells (don't know if performance data will translate to D sized batteries)

Hi, odessit, and thank's for the suggestion! :)

I had not considered putting a bunch of AA cells in parallel for this application, though I have considered it in the past. Assuming $2.50 per Eneloop AA * 24 cells equals $60, that's fairly close to the cost of six D cells, and the D cells are easier to manage. However, it certainly is an idea to entertain. Also, as you indicate, they are larger in volume (girth).

Any issues at all with the Nexcells?

I had them for ~2-3 months and the light that I use them in has only 350mA draw. I have about 8 hrs on them and in that period I did not even have to recharge them yet, so I really can't vouch for the quality either way.

Okay; cool. I think I'll wait a bit to see if anyone else has any input to offer, and then, I may just go with the Accupower, since I know many individuals here use them. I am sure that over time, there will be more people who have used both.

I have six of the Accupower D's in a flashlight powering the ROP low bulb as kind of a test program. C's also, but that's another story.

So far I have around 10 of the Accupower D rechargeables. Got my first to go in 2D M@gs modded with LEDs. No problem with any of those I got a year ago (two sets of two). Have not "tested" runtime, but I don't use the lights much with them in, but checked yesterday (gee, I wonder why....) and still charged up good.

The Accupower C and D rechargeables have been really good so far for me. They have been charged and cycled a couple of times. Held their charge well, done exactly what they say they will, so I have no issues with them.

Would I buy them again, yes I would and I would recommend them too.

Thank's for the input, Bob! Yeah, that's the nice thing about the LSD cells, you can just leave them in the light, and *know* they will be ready when you need 'em.

I am currently using both C and D size Accupower LSD's. No scientific data to share other than it takes a long time to run them down. They work fine for me.:)

I wonder why fewer people have tried the D size Nexcells.

Perhaps the popularity of the Accupower Evolution cells here on CPF has dissuaded them...?

Are the Nexcell cells 4500mah or 9000mah ? The advert on Thomas Distributing has both capacities listed. If they are just 4500, they are simply not worth buying.

TakeTheActive, I am using a Triton2 and charging 4 at a time in a Voltcraft Battery holder. I need to put charger jacks in all my M@gs because it is way, way to easy to charge that way.

I love my FiveMega battery holders....all of them have charging jacks. Very, very easy to charge 6,9 or 12 AA batteries that way too.

If you check both data sheets you will find the AccuPower has a slight edge over the NexCell in regards to capacity, minimum capacity & discharge rate. I'd buy the AccuPower.

Ditto. I have both sizes in lights, and some of them spend all their time sitting outside in the vehicles, with little use. Some of them have been out there for over a year, and still function perfectly.
