Aleph 1.5x123 Tube

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Ray,
With the tension of the contact spring against the batteries, I didn't get any rattle from them.

I haven't tried it myself, but it stands to reason that if a 3X123 body will take 2 AA cells, the 1.5 should accept 1 AA. There might be some battery rattle though, due to the less diameter of the AA cell.

Just tried it and it holds 1xAA but will rattle with the McE2S set-up and eventually have inconstant electrical contact. With a Z57 no rattle and perfect contact.

P.S:: dito to tyler!

In a couple posts, I've read this tube caccept 2xCR2 cells to allow various 6-volt configurations. Has anyone tried this setup? Do the cells fit without rattle?

I just received my 1.5x123 tube from Wayne today. Attached to an A-3 with DB917-Lux III, this sucker works nicely. I haven't (and don't intend to) done any runtime tests, but it's great if all you have lying around are CR2 cells. It also decreases the overall length by a good half-inch or so eyeballing it.

Ray, I am using 2 x CR2 in this one ... no Li-Ion for me. Works flawlessly, but I dodn't do a runtime test, don't have that many of those cells.
If you are interested I can do an apporximate runtime on request.

Ray or Bernhard,

Which CR2 cells are you using? Do you happen to know the voltage and maH ratings of the cr2 cells?

I think batterystation sells cr2 sells for 1.25 each so I may decide to use these instead of 2x123 on a BB750 Lux V head if the numbers seem to work out fine for voltage and current.

Thanks.

Curtis

I have Sanyos because they were cheap, and I am in no position to comment on CR2 cells ... barely use them at all exept for funny lights like the above pictured and ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Larry's Cr2 II ...

Keissling,

How did you get the Lux V in that L1 head? Is it LE compatible? I just did an L1 head mod and had to practically jump through hoops to make it LE compatible. I did it, but it wasn't easy.

Sorry, off topic.

Tony,

Customized ES-Can and they are a PITA!! I used a bored out ArcLS retaining ring as a centering jig for the can and I pot the mess in the head. At least that's what I recall. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif I remember enough that I don't plan to revisit the mod! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Don,

You're gonna laugh. I cranked out a delrin plug for the front to protect the front 1/4" of the inside of the bezel. I then coated the face of the plug going into the light with grease. I then filled the head up to the threads with JB Weld. I let it sit for a while and got tired of waiting so I cooked it at about 150 for 10 minutes and the JB got rock hard. I then drilled out the JB with a 3/4 bit and chased the threads right into the JB Weld. Man, that stuff is tough. Anyway, voila. I dropped a reflector in it and it was good to go. It took about an hour to do and was pretty easy once I figured it out. The JB Weld is almost like steel once it hardens, but at this point, only time will tell.

I've gotta admit, it's a cool looking light. If the heads were more available, I might do a few more.

BTW, have I mentioned that I really LOVE the McR20s!

Ah Don ... I just wanted to tell Tony how hard I worked to put the LuxV in the L1 head ...

Dito ... the McR-20 is one of the coolest little masterpieces available to date!
But in this head there is a so17xa as it predates the Aleph-Series by a few months. Gives a nice and perfect flood.
