Hi guys,
This thread will get lost among the others but for a moment, it will have some life! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have been asked about the tail cap on the left in the pic below:

Tail-caps.jpg

It is essentially an unguarded version ot the trim cap and in fact I make these when needed and time permits by turning the guard off of the trim tail cap. In essence, this shell is very similar to the SF Z52 which is no longer being made. This cap can accept either the two stage switch module or the original LOTC components from a Z52.

The trim cap will be used for these "bald" mods as well as the most likely host for the Ti pocket clips if and when I can get some of them from the folks who are working on them for me.

Now there is another "mod" I have done with the two stage switch components and utilizing this cap. I have taken to calling it the FT or "flat top" switch as it is a flat and tail standing configuration:

McE2S-FT.jpg

Some of you have made your own "hair trigger" mods to your two stage switches by reducing the stroke between low and high outputs. This FT mod consists of a hair trigger main body coupled with a truncated button. The switch module is not captive but since the tail cap doesn't need to come off in normal use, this is really no big deal. I found some neoprene material that is dense and slid on one side and soft and pourous on the other. Heck, it is from some salt water fishing pole grips I have. Same stuff on some bike handle bars and weight room equipment. This is what I am using for the water proof membrane. I believe I have now found a viable source for these and hope in a couple months to have this FT switch become a full member of the Aleph line and available through the shop and the builders. I am also pursuing getting the modified switch components machined. In the mean time, I will be making these switches up as time permits and selling them as available.

This brings up another issue and that is I plan to be building some lights that will be unique for one reason or another and I will be posting them for sale in this forum as I can get to them and build them. At present neither the FT switches or some of this other stuff to be shown are available for ordering. This stuff will be posted for sale as it comes up. Because I have additional "mod" labor in these FT switches, I will be asking an additional $10 for them or selling them for a total of $60. This is no financial bargain and I am NOT Costco! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

However, especially for the Aleph 2-1x123, this makes for a great pocket light!! The overall length is reduced to just under 3.5" and the switch is essentially guarded without any guard. The action is very nice but I'll let others comment on this. For a close up of the switch:

Now what is wrong with that picture?!?!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif

Well perhaps zooming out some will help:

These lights have been buffed to a mirror finish and then plated with type II clear and dyed individually( with the exception of three chrome over nickel units). The images don't do these justice. They look and feel like they have been lacquered or they're marble. These are the Aleph "Executive" line. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Most of these are already spoken for but as I can get to them, I will be building them out and offering some of these as well as more to come for sale here in the forum. Depending on the switch used, these will likely go from $40 to $50 more than a comperable build in the HA-Black.

That new tailcap is freaking pretty sweet. The Aleph system just keeps getting better and better. I will be on the lookout for one of these FT switch bad boys when they become available.

Curtis.

cue003,

Thanks! I think the switch works and feels better than it looks!

Will the FT switch be available in HA3 Natural by any chance? I have found the HA3 Natural Aleph 2x123 body to go with my HA3 Natural PR-T X4T BB750..... this tail in Natural HA3 will really make my light COMPLETE and smaller than many other 2x123 lights.

Thanks

Curtis

Don, this looks very interesting. Are there any plans on the horizon for production of a solid-end twisty tail, rather than the soft neoprene covered end, similar to the twisty tail Otokoyama made for the VIP?

cue003,
Yes there will be some HA-Nat Bald/ FT shells. In fact I have some now.

Tyler, I see what you are saying, get the new internals and swap out the inside of Z52 switch. That is an option for sure.

The new FT does look much cooler/sweeter! It also looks a little shorter than the Z52 switch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It looks like from the pictures that the Z52 say "Surefire" or something on the tailcap. I have never seen these in person so I am not sure if that is correct for all the Z52 switches.

I prefer the sterile, as you put it Tyler, FT switch. You just gotta love a McGizmo product. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

Thanks

Curtis.

Arewethere -

You *can* just ignore the fact that there is a soft spot in the middle of the tail, and just use it as a twisty... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Paul - Grrr. I didn't know you had an FT chromed! I hate you!

Wow, Paul, not only do you have the FT, you have a chromed version! I'm one of the lucky eleven who got a chromed Aleph 2, but it was, of course, with the standard McE2S. Would love to see a chromed trim tail or FT.

Darell, nope, can't ignore the squishy tail. Gotta be all metal for me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif
I Like the FT idea, and those new bodies look great.

Thanks.

You want the picture for free, or are you willing to pay for it? I have one! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink2.gif

AWTYD,

I have some ideas about strictly twist on but not a solid tail cap like you are suggesting. I think the demand for such a switch would be pretty slim. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif Such a cap is not difficult to machine but time consuming as a one off. I have to order these caps in lots of 500 or 1000.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif Man, I could show 12 new parts and available in 10 colors and someone would ask for a variation in a different color! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif

But are you still going to work on the upgraded hole-free standard McE2S? As you know, THAT is one I'd really like. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
