i just bought some hours ago some batteries of "carrefour", the ones from this post.

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=252408

when i put them on LED Bike Safety Strobe Light i bought from deal extreme (this one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3639) they simply don't work and it's supposed to be "pre-charged". other imitation "sqny" (lol, yes) and cheap alkalines do work on that!.

i tried to put the carrefour batteries on a laser pointer and other devices and they work! but not in that led bike light...

what could be the problem?

i don't have any good charger yet, so i can't meisure the charge now. but i bought them 1 hour ago....

the batteries are AAA, 800mah

seems to be a contact problem...i'll see later if i can fix it

Sometimes people have a device that won't work with nimh, LSD or regular, but they are quite rare. Even if a device doesn't like nimh, of all the nimh there are, LSD ones will be the most likely to work as they will generally have a higher resting voltage when recently charged, and higher voltage under load when being used.

In your case though you have used them straight from the pack.
Those Ecoplanet must be new stock as they just recently started to be sold, so the initial voltage would be fine.

Have you tried any other batteries in the device, some alkalines maybe?
It could just be that the thing doesn't work with nimh for some reason but I'd say that is unlikely.

Also, you need a charger!

PM me if you need any buying tips for one.

Hey, one thing I know a lot about is buying chargers in Spain.

I might not be an expert in using them, but I am an expert in buying them!

Is the POSITIVE end BUTTON (on the top of the cell) making good contact in the LED Light?

I have some devices where the device's contact is RECESSED (i.e. the shoulder surrounding it is too thick) and the button on some cells can't reach the contact.

For a closeup picture of the Carrefour button top, please see (bottom right): Carrefour 2100mAh AA LSD Cells Review

EDIT: Just in case anyone is wondering, I use Firefox with Tabs (LOVE TABS!) and when I clicked on this thread HOURS AGO, there were no replies. As I plod through, reading and replying (making a fresh pot of coffee), other members beat me to the possible answer. So what, it's a community where everyone tries to help out everyone else. :)

yes, the contact was the problem.

thanks, i was afraid of doing a bad purchase!

NiMH batteries usually have a lower voltage than alkaline batteries. Some devices designed for alkaline batteries refuse to work, or give you a short runtime because of the lower voltage.

I had a few cameras that were really reluctant to work with NiMH batteries. They might not work at all, or I'd get a few shots and it would quit when the battery still had lots of charge left.

Agreed! I have a number of devices (clocks, etc.) that work fine on even the cheapest 1.5v alkalines but will not run on 1.2v NiMH. Also, I have a few lights (mostly older ones) that were designed for alkalines and will not work reliably on NiMH.

Most digital cameras would work on NiMH, but need the firmware modified as typically firmware set to too read the battery sensor electronics and telling you the batteries are flat at too high a voltage. With modified firmware sometimes you can even get an extra 30% life off of alkalines.
