Sorry if this is a complete noob question and easily answered in some comparison thread somewhere, but I've spent two hours googling without much luck finding an answer....

I just picked up a couple of the Fenix P2D CE (max output 135 lumens) from an REI clearance sale and was frankly disappointed with the brightness output from the light.

So, I'm looking for something in a similar form-factor (1xCR123), with a brighter light, and similar price range (ie under about 50-60 bucks).

So far, the only one I've found that could possibly fit that is an ITP C9R, but it's quite a bit heavier than the P2D.

Is there anything out there around the same weight/size as the P2D, with a price under 60 bucks, that's brighter on the same CR123A?

For what it's worth, strobe and SOS mean absolutely nothing to me. I can take them or leave them, without caring one way or the other.

I ended up going for the olight t10 - looks like a nice improvement over the fenix, and the option to add the AA tube was nice.

Of course, right after I place the order, I come here and someone else has offered an even brighter option. Still, the Olight looks to be right about where I want to be, so I think I will be happy with the purchase.

Thanks guys!

The reason why you're disappointed with the brightness is that you got the standard and outdated P2D, probably with a P4 bin l.e.d. The premium P2D with a Q5 bin l.e.d. is rated at 180 lumens. Since it's the old style model, it's lower in price than the new model. Lighthound.com has the premium Q5 P2D for around $48. This was replaced with the PD20 which still has the same Q5 l.e.d. and same brightness on turbo, but with a different body style, and a different spread of brightness levels. The PD20 is about $58 at Lighthound.com. There's a 2% off coupon code, CPF, and shipping is free over $75. If you want brighter, wait awhile for new lights to be made with R4 and R5 bin Cree XP-G l.e.d.s and R3 bin Cree XP-E l.e.d.s.. These can provide up to a 30+% increase in brightness over the current generation of l.e.d.s. Some Quark lights are being sold with the best l.e.d.s now, but they have already been snached up.

By the way, don't believe all of the "compare at" prices listed on REIoutlet.com's website. That light was never $78. It was around $50 or less when it first came out. Here's some of the other prices that are way off:

Light "compare at" price "sale price" original new actual price
LOD.............. $56 ........ $34.93........$43.50*
EO1...............$20..........$13............$12.50 (Lighthound.com)
TK20..............$85......... $49.93.........$53.50**
Gerber LX 3.0 $88.56...... $44.93.........$50 (REI)
Gerber Cornea Hi $121.50 $69.93.........$70 (REI)

*LOD Q4 (updated version) was same price, further updated LD01 is cheaper at $41.95.

**Fenix TK20 and EO1 are on sale many places as a combo pack. Batteryjunction.com has this combo for $54.50.

Shop around and don't believe everything hyped up by one company.

The Olight T10 came in yesterday, and I wasn't amazingly blown away, but am satisfied with its performance. I like the UI quite a bit, and honestly, I'll be using it on the low modes more often than the crazy bright impress-your-friends modes.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
