I just stumbled across flickr
It shows to be a Yahoo group device. They allow image hosting but in the terms they state that the images should be photos only so some of our animated avatars would be frowned upon or zapped possibly. The system is open and you can peruse other photgraphers works. Kind of like the Photo.net site I have some pics on but with linking allowed and free.
There was some interesting content in some collections of photos.
