I like "Custom Knife Directory Forum" along with "Custom Knives and Guns forum".

The second one (CKG) you will find daily posts from the likes of Allen Elishewitz, Kit Carson, Neil Blackwood, ect.

The first forum (CKD) has a lot of "beginer" info that will help you along. There is even a "kit" forum that is run by Darrell Ralph

Great looking knifes. I usually prefer Demascus steel, but I like both equally in this instance. It may be the use of burl. Man that's pretty.

Thanks. :) I've been making knives since about '96 and wife began about '99. It is a fun after hours activity, our only knife show nowadays is BAKCA San Fran. (Met some of CPF guys up at the last show.) The folder has mammoth ivory with Devin Thomas Firestorm damascus. Lower is an ATS-34 with a Lanolite stone handle.

This is one of the Mrs. pieces from the last show. Persian styled with dinosaur bone.

Thanks mike, i had joined that one like sunday, so i shall see how much is there.
That one your wife made is nice! i love the shinyness of it...where you get your bolsters & such

The guys on the forums are helpful so you'll get loads of info to get you on your way. :)

The bolsters are heat treated 416 SS finished to an A6 (~2000 grit) with a light touch on the buffer for blending. I purchase abrasives and steels from from Tru-Grit located in Ontario, CA. Some from K&G Finishing in Arizona.

Keep us/me posted on your progress...I'll be looking forward to seeing your creations. :)

i had forgotten about this thread...thanks all for your help. :grin2:

There are some good books by Wayne Goddard, and a good book by Bob Loveless. These would be very helpful for you.

There are a couple of websites that sell knife kits and supplies. You can buy premade blades and add your own handles, and even modify the shape of the handle a little without getting into the extensive skill and knowledge required to make blades from scratch.
