Any Nite Hawk K2 mods?

A friend of mine is an avid rider, and showed me his Nite Hawk K2 (helmet mount, seperate NiMh battery pack.)

Way too cool tint for my taste, and not real bright compared to more, uh, recent LED's I've used. It looks like a great candidate for a simple XP-G upgrade.

I've been unable to unscrew the bezel ring, I suspect the factory may have expoxied it in place.

Anyone taken one of these apart, and might share some info? Thanks,

John F

I haven't had one apart, so I can't help you there. Is it a metal housing? If so, then you can likely add some heat to the threaded area you suspect is glued and weaken the glue enough to unscrew it.

Replacing it with a K2 TFFC emitter would update the output. I bought a few K2 TFFC Neutral and they have stunning tint. I plan to make a bike HL with one. Replacing the LED with another K2 would be easier than replacing with the different form factor of XP-G (unless it has a nice big flat area around the LED - then XP-G should be easy) and you know another K2 will will work with your optics/reflector.

Any XP-G you get today will still be cool. Neutral XP-G are due soon though. Soon could be "summer" though. XP-G will be more efficient than K2 TFFC. If you can open it and see the "lay of the LED land" and know XP-G will fit (post pictures) and can wait a while longer for neutral LED (I highly recommend for biking) then XP-G may be the way to go.

Check the battery output too. NiMH that have spent time sitting discharged will be damaged and have low output (lower than 1.25-1.3V per cell fresh off the charger with no load) and need to be replaced. That combined with the K2 TFFC (twice as efficient as early cheaper K2's commonly used) should really wake it up.
