PICS posted / Anyone can make SPY007 knob ornament?

I was thinking that I would really like one or two tritum vials in the knob of the SPY. The recessed area is just too tempting to remain empty!

Does anyone have the mean to make a small disk, *slightly* protuding from the knob, that would be milled at the center to accomodate one or two tritium vials?

Sure I could always place the vial and fill the whole pocket with Norland adhesive but the vials protude slightly and are much exposed to abuse. I would prefer if they were protected in a smaller tiny pocket milled in metal.

This disk would be made in titanium, or another top material. Tungsten carbide, inconel or even gold? I don't know, many options could be cool!

What do you guys think? Does anyone have the mean to offer this?

A jeweller?
You should be able to find one in Paris able to make you one!

That is an idea indeed. But I am unsure where to find a real jeweler, I mean a guy that actually make things. What I see around most are just resellers, that do nothing but sale stuff. In most cases cleaning jewels and changing the battery of (some) watches is all they can do. :thumbsdow

Also I'm afraid of what a real jeweler would charge to make a custom part like this. :sigh:

Go ask them.
They should be able to tell you where they have their custom stuff made.
There are some left, usually some old-timers still able to make a model, make some small delicate items, do the work the ordinary "resellers" no longer is able to do.
Of course they don't do it for free, but for such a small, simple in design item, the cost should not be too overwhelming!

I found one, actually my neighbour running a small, very discrete jeweller's shop just in the next building.
He made me this tie-pin, in yellow and white gold, all custom, one of a kind.
It was not free, but the cost of making it was nearly one fourth of the assurance-value set by the insurance company.
He found it interesting to make an order like this!
And I wanted a tie-pin for the rare occasional use, that I could like to wear.
Actually it is so detailed you can make out what kind of engine and carburettor the bike it is modelled from is using!

If nothing else, I'd love to have a carbon fiber button to glue into place on the SPY007 switch.

What about something similar, but as an attachment for the mini 1913 rail attachment the SPY has? You could have one of each color and just keep swapping them out as needed.

I was picking on Dad & Don earlier but did a little looking and found a 9mm Ziamond for 125bucks, which I bet could be found a lot cheaper at other sites. http://www.ziamond.com/25ctround.html. I have seen CZs for cheap so I may need to see how one looks with a trit imbeded in bottom.

I get 8.7mm / .34in inside our nobs so at 9mm it would need a flat bottom and a little light filing to fit and wth, a small recess in the bottom for an ice-blue trit and wahlah..

Hmm is that too much bling.. :tinfoil:
Ok, had to search a little mo, http://www.e14k.com/shop/index.php?shop=1&itemid=1 8.5mm $30 & 9mm 32, now I need to request a special order. :naughty:

Thanks

I used the dome trit and filled the concave bottom with GID paint. If the glow faded, then the trit came into action:

Nice Rainer!

Perhaps a silver twill carbon fiber disk? Or just a simple cf disk, similar to the Ti and Aleph mule disks that some were creating? I also remember a great MOP (mother of pearl) disk that Don/McGizmo made for one of his Ti mules.

How many would you like?

I personnally have just one SPY007 but I have 9 tritium vials on hands (various colors) that I could install and offer to other member, if there is interrest and you were willing to make more than just one?

I do have one that I made for my 007, but I didn't install it...It's very similar to what you're looking for except it doesn't have a heavy/noticable chamfer (tiny part, and I wanted to preserve as much grip surface as possible).

The slot hasn't been deburred...

Scott, you always make some real cool stuff !!

Purchased the Ti disk from Scott , deburred and bead blasted it, pot a RED vial in it, aligned with the two side orange trits I already had.
