Anyone have a bulb mod for the G&P Scorpion?

Love my G&P Scorpion, small and powerful, use it all the time. But bulbs are about $24 each. Has anyone figured out any way to use another cheaper bulb in it and still keep the brightness?

I know that AWRs Hotdriver has really improved the length of the life of the 500W bulb in my SF M6, which I believe is very close to the bulb in your Scorpion . I don't know if the Hot driver will fit in the Scorpion but it might.

here's a link to a mod done to a WF500... which is a very similar light. Post number 8 by Plasmaman

now runs a WA1111.

not sure if anyone ever discovered whether or not a WF500 bulb would screw into a R500 reflector.. or whether the WF500 reflector would fit in an R500 head or vice versa.. BUT, if they were interchangable- WF500 bulbs are available for about $10 from qualitychinagoods.com

Wow, the WF500 bulb looks pretty identical to the R500 bulb!! How about it, has anyone tried it? It says 7.2 Volts, the Scorpion says 7.4 Volts, that wouldn't make a difference would it?

For $10 plus shipping, I may just order one and try it for size.

(Love my Scorpion, but why are the bulbs so friggin expensive? The threads below the bulb are gold colored, maybe that's not just gold colored, maybe it's actual gold??? Lol.....

Haven't tried but the 7.2 should work and might even be a bit brighter although that could mean a tradeoff of slightly lower bulb life if all other things are equal. Gold plated contacts are common on many electronic components. It it looks gold it probably is gold plated as I don't think brass is used too often for contacts.
