Anyone modded a proton pro yet?

Like maybe replacing the red 3mm LED with a white 3mm LED to be used as the low low level reading/ramp up to indoors navigation light ?
Curious. How about the older proton personal light?

Good idea! I looked at the Proton long and hard before deciding on my D10. I have a white Photon Freedom and the UI is PERFECT and then they went and ruined it on the Proton with that red led for low. I can almost stare into my Freedom on low, I think that will do it for most folks. I like your idea and wonder (if it's possible) if that would be more or less efficient than using only the main Cree for ultra-low levels?

I would love to have an all white Proton Pro, but I am not sure if you can do it with a 3mm white. The Vf is different, and it depends on how the proton circuit drives the red if you could just swap it out or not. A Cree-Only model would be best, especially with a OP reflector.

The Cree would be more efficient than 3mm white for ultra low levels since the Proton uses PWM

Maybe LRI will surprise us with a Cree XP-E version, white-only.

The best solution would be to find a way to use the Freedom UI on my D10! Maybe only in head twisted tight/constant on mode? They're now taking pre-orders for SPD's with the Osram golden dragon emitter (and so far they haven't posted new specs so I don't know the benefit here) but I'd so rather have one with the Freedom UI.

I haven't done many mods , and don't really know my way around the proton, so I thought maybe someone else had already tried this.
It would be the perfect light to me if I could do this. It has the best UI I have seen.

I wouldn't want to give up the red LED, but I sure would like to see some way to have the white come up on low, too. As I've mentioned before I wish LRI would figure that one out, and add one or two more reds to smooth and brighten the beam. Keep the rest the same.

The Cree should have a better bin+tint and the light should support 14500 Li-Ions

Can't remember who (maybe FlashCrazy?), but someone did swap a white 3mm in, and was very happy with the results.

Ah, so there is hope! I will search for that thread and see if there are any specs on the replacement he used.
And how to get the board out.

It looks like it should unscrew above the switch, but I am not having any luck.
Am I looking in the wrong place?
Or is heat or something needed?
I really want to get this mod.

The only mod I did on mine was spray hairspray on the reflector to try to remove the atrocious cree rings...

I'd love to see a revision of this light with white only, an Osram or other ringless LED, and much higher PWM.

That is what I have done so far , the spray has softened the beam and made it more useful and floody , much better for reading with on low.
I have the 3mm LED , so all I have left to do is get the head apart and access the back of the board to switch emitters and I will have the perfect light for my purposes.
I notice on the front of the board there is another slot for an LED marked RED so I assume it could have 2 red or white LED's instead of just the one 3mm. The reflector has several holes around it that are premarked but have not been drilled out for more 3mm sized bulbs, but only 2 places on the board.
