Anyone tried an REI All Weather LED Cap?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I tried doing a search but didn't find anything.

Was looking around REI last weekend and saw a cap with LEDs built right into the bill. Here's a link to the cap on the REI website: http://www.rei.com/product/771073

Anyone tried using this or a similar product? Are they any good?

I have a buddy who has one of these:

Not a ton usable light. You can see things in relative proximity. But there is, as would be expected, no throw of which to speak.

Does light from the side of the LED's shine into the eyes and ruin night vision?
Does not look like they have any shielding.

I received one of these L.L. Beaners two years ago, as a gift. The side spill shouldn't bother anyone (LEDs are somewhat encloused) and the forward light is good for dark adapted eyes. YMMV, however. It's actually rather handy, but I would never have purchased one firsthand. It's better than I had expected and the two 2032 cells last a reasonable time.
