Got any beamshots?.
What is the pros cons over an R2?.
I have one with no modes its an R2 and was wondering if the MCE would be better for a light were lots of spill is most important for me.I also only need to use it for minutes at a time.
The drop in i seen has got 3 modes and its claimed to have higher lumens its a spiderfire drop in.

Hello nutzz,
Did you see the 'search' feature there? Lots of pics of cree xre r2's, and of cree mc-e's of various bins.
Recall that the type of emitter is only part of the equation. There are different bins and flux's as well. All this is explained in the data sheet (google cree xre r2 data binning codes).
In short, the mc-e is a quad die emitter, so yup it's got lots of spill in comparison to r2.
Look at reviews of the items you have, the output claims are not to be relied upon.

Hello Nutzz.

It's worth it.
I got the MCE drop-in.

It's 6 meters / 19.6 feet to target.

Excuse to crappy indoor shots.
Outside the difference is even bigger.

yes but its not really worth the effort unless you have IMR cells and desire maximum output for short time use... 7-10 minutes tops from an IMR 16340.

That much output from such a small light IS very impressive though, just pack a TON of backup cells:D

The XPG is a better alternative IMHO. With a ~1-1.4A driver it should be about 200-250 Lumens OTF. Thats a hair shy of what an MCE/IMR setup can deliver, but you should get more usable run times, in the 20-25 minute ballpark.

Beamshots: Tree at 35 feet
MCE P60, this draws 2.55A from a single cell.

XPG P60, this draws 1.4A from a single cell.

Im running a L2m with DX MCE p60 Dropin pulling around 2.60A.
Tons of floody light, Small dark cross in the middle. But its my edc right now. Lights up the whole room or floods the yard with light. As long as you dont need throw its great.

I had some beamshots I took a couple weeks ago.

sb flashlights has an MC-E drop in here, think its a single mode.

indeed but a L2M can fit 17500s & 18500s too...that changes things considerably!

Whoa... I didn't know that. thanks for the tip. An MCE/P7 direct drive off an 18500 would be a nice little setup, at least until the emitter heats up:thumbsup:

do be cautious about the switch compatibility with the high amperage...

I use a mdfied Solarforce tailcap with Forward switch (taht KD one that is also used bt Fenix, Jetbeam etc) that has been tested to 3.3A

The SLF tailcap does not to be screwed all teh way down, so there is room for a -500 batt. For this reason the surefire 6P tailcap maybe will not work.
