I noticed you have LSH-P 1551 (sporting the 2AA pack, I believe). Just for fun - I have LSH-P 1550 which was "reworked" into one of the first LSHF-P lights by Arc.

By some odd coincidence LSH-P 1551 *is* a Fraen optic version too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif , another of the first ones. I keep the 2AA pack on it so I easilly know which one is which.


The Arc4 really is tremendous. I think this could be one of the best lights I`ve owned so far, and I have owned rather a lot of lights in my life! My only complaints so far are already going to be addressed in the future - the lack of knurling on the head, and a tail switch guard so I can EDC it wihtout worrying about it activating accidentally. I already dropped it once when it slid out of my grip so I hope the combination of knurling and a flared tail pack will make it easier to hold on to. I got the hang of the settings menus after only 5-10 minutes of fiddling, having played with the stimulators and read the advanced instructions already. Got it set with primary on level 3 and secondary on about 10 or so, that gives me a good range of brightnesses.

I said it before and I`ll say it again - the Arc4 is a masterpiece of mechanical, electronic and software engineering. Could this be the future of flashlights? I hope so.

Looks like a "fat" AA tailpack.

Was there ever such a thing as a fat 1AA pack? I thought all 1AA packs were skinnys.

Third from the left is, as correctly pointed out, a fat AA pack. It`s one of the very early ones, from when the LS in Arc LS stood also for "Lighting System" and each head came with a choice of three battery packs. That one actually belongs with the one second from the left. There aren`t many fat AA packs out there, but I do rather like that one. It isn`t as bright but it`s an amber highdome LED in there (one of the last ones that Arc sold through Ebay and actually came with a TSP) and with a SureFire beam-spreader filter makes a nice soft light that`s easy on the eyes. It suffers wiht a lopsided die so the beam is a bit wonky normally, but looks just great with the filter on.
