^Okay, cool then. Is it off or on by default?

The latching full power was a CPF suggestion. We could do the following:

1. remove it back to normal
2. increase the time for it to set
3. make it return back to last used
4. make it a settable option

I would rather find a solution that works for most cases instead adding yet another menu option.

I think a double click to bring you back to last used makes the most sense. Similar to changing between the other brightnesses.

I have a suggestion (that I also wish was in my current arc4).

Maybe click and hold while light is on will toggle to the
other mode. primary to secondary or secondary to primary.
Then if you hold over 5 sec, it's just like double clicking.

This way you can switch back without turning the light off.

I think ARS is a great feature. For those who don't like it, they
can turn it off.

No tester here yet (Hey, I'm not home, give me a break!) But I will still confidently suggest that for "simple" mode, High should not latch. Keep simple mode simple. This is one of those actions that the user didn't think he asked for, and now the light is stuck on. Didn't stick last time, but it stuck this time. Must be broken.

two suggestions:

1. ARS be turned off by default. this will keep you from going batty until you figure out how to turn it off.

2. change the sequence. The locking function should be first and SOS which I never use, second.

I was hoping the software would become more simple & user friendly. but it is getting more complex /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Personally, I don't really like the idea of the "timer" features (ARS, auto-lock). Since mine seems buggy, I'd rather not risk the light turning on and running down the battery.

I've removed and returned the battery and tried it again. Now even after 10-20 minutes the auto-lockout doesn't turn on at all. So at first it would turn on after 3 seconds, now it doesn't turn on after 10's of minutes. (I've tried re-enabling it multiple times, waiting 10 minutes & auto-lockout is still not working. Maybe just a bad clock all-together)

I also agree with Ray that latch-on high in simple mode is not a good idea.

I don't think so. I would rather have the options. Once you learn how to do it, it's pretty easy. It's not like you'll be changing features several times a week. I like to set it up once and use it. If I change my mind later, no big deal since I know how to do it.

I think Peter's given us the best of both worlds with the "simple mode" option.

Hi Peter...

My Arc4+ beta unit apparently safely arrived at my law office yesterday (Saturday) for testing. I said "apparently" because I was out of town, overseeing the retrieval of truckloads of old "stuff" out a turn-of-the-19th-century blacksmith shop for a client. (This was the culmination of two years of successful litigation).

ANYWAY...I`m watching old wooden forms, that were used in the 1890`s to make horse wagons, being loaded up when my cell phone rings. It was one of my partners calling...very concerned. She said that a package arrived for me while she was at the office that Saturday AM, and whatever was inside was "flashing". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

I asked who sent the package, and the reply was "Merri Gransee". I told my law partner to open up the package, to unscrew the battery tube, and to then screw the battery tube back on. (I warned her about the automatic test cycle that kicks in when you do these steps.) Problem at the office was resolved!

The Arc4 must have been going through its ARS gyrations at the time it was delivered. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I`ll pick up the light sometime this weekend and start playing with (I mean "using") it....replete, of course, in my official "Arc Field Tester Uniform", with the official "Arc Field Tester" cap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BOY...
I can hardly wait! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Ok, I don't know why I didn't try this before.

If I latch on to full power, I can "un latch" simply by holding the button down again for about 1-2 seconds. You see a drop and raise in the light output as a confirmation that your not latched on anymore. Then, when you let the button go, it takes you back to the last brightness level you were on.

I didn't realize it could do that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So the only thing I see a problem with is the timing issue that affects ARS and autolock. I don't know if it's worth messing around with these two features if they are capable of these glitches. Everything else works fine. I would take latch-on out of the simple mode, remove auto-lock and ARS and put the beacon back in. But that's just me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/au.gif

Thanks Sean. I wish I would have thought to try that. It works on this unit as well. I agree with your suggestions.

I like no.3. If double click (not press and hold) makes it back to last level,it is good for me.

By the way,Will Rev.3 and tale guard optional part come out at same time?
If so,I will have these (and keep my Rev.1 as it came from factory without upgrade /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif)

The obvious question:

Was there any function removed compared with the 'actual' software version?

Not only menu items, but also other things.
Does it contain the advanced tint control?

If yes, what is the benefit of the latter?

questions, questions....

Does it change anything with the maximum brightness?

If I understand your question correctly, some items were taken out of the menu (beacon replaced with ARS, old lockout function replaced with new one, strobe function added).

None of the other features were taken out, like advanced tint control. It's still there.

Maximum brightness is still the same, but two more levels were added (level 17 & 18). These are at the dimmest end so you now have a dimmer setting than the rev2 software allowed. I don't know if these two levels affect the other 16 much if at all however.

There are so many functions without any user interface and I was wondering if they are all still there. But Peter mentioned something like an improved tint control and I was wondering what it could be (and never got an answer, must have been overlooked). What is wrong with the current tint control?

Why should they? When the spacing is the same (what I assume) you just get these two more levels, if you use them or not. Of course it makes only sense with the adjustable tertiary setting.

One more thing: We would like to have a possibility for software upgrades here in Europe. For the local dealer it will have the benefit that people are more tempted to buy 'locally' and the expense for the programming station will be paid off quite fast. Any intentions there?

Beacon or "findme" is still there. I suspect the timer problem on Sean's unit is causing that menu item to not display correctly.

Nothing was removed, only added or changed.

Peter
