Are the ENELOOPs AA better than the 2650mAh DURACELLs AA ?

Would I get a better runtime with the SANYO ENELOOPs than with the DURACELL AA 2650mAh??

Depends... If you're running them dry over a course of a few months.. yes, probably.

It also depends on how much charge the 2650mahs hold.. I've read that they lose capacity very fast.

If it's short term, you'd probably get more runtime with the 2650mahs..

As stated, it depends on how you use your cells. 2650's will run longer fresh, but self discharge fairly quickly. Eneloops will maintain capacity longer. Eneloops are slightly higher voltage, and more robust also.

For general purpose, around the house applications, Eneloops are usually the best choice.

Capacity (amount of potential energy) is theoretical in that certain operation aspects can prevent you from accessing it or having it degrade in time. In digital cameras, many operate off two batteries and will shut down operation if the voltage drops below some minimum value when operating hard (i.e. with flash on). With these points in mind, here's a summary:

As a group the higher capacity NiMh cells have disadvantages over the normal capacity (<2000 mA-hr) NiMh types:

  1. Smaller and less ambiguous voltage drop (negative delta V) signal. Can lead to overcharge/heating and immediate damage on even day one of ownership (i.e. less life).
  2. Higher internal resistance results in less voltage output than can lead to "cutoff" circuits preventing access to even a fully charged battery
  3. Even higher self leakage than regular NiMh and quicker discharge
The Sanyo technology has the following advantages over normal NiMh:

  1. Lower internal resistance. Less drop when driving higher current consuming devices.
  2. slightly higher voltage chemistry ideal for cutoff circuits calibrated for higher voltage alkaline chemistries.

The higher numbers game played by high capacity marketing groups is just that...a numbers game. Personally, I have one set and that will be the last one I'll ever get. A product with too many tradeoffs to make for a pratical rechargeable battery.

Sort of have to add to what has been said.

I don't have a single 2300+ NON-LSD NimH battery left.

I have from 1600 to 2200 that will still have 1.2V after a month or more. NONE of the 2500 I had (and we are talking 36 or more) would have ANYTHING after a month.

If you are going to use the 2650 very soon after charging (and bedsides running a flashlight hard I don't know what use that would be) then fine.

But I use LSD NimH in a few incandescent lights that I like to work when I pick them up. And mostly I use them 2 a day in my Garmin GPS.

If they'd do C and D cell LSD that would be the bees knees!

They do have c&d cell lsd batteries.
