Are there any advantages to using unprotected 16340 batteries

I was just wondering and I know the disadvantages . What is the purpose for using unprotected li-on cells? they are cheaper ...:thinking:

They might fit better, they're cheaper, and they can give the current high powered incans need to start up. That's about it.

Unprotected Li-Ions generally have a bit more actual capacity. Without the protection circuit, there's more room for the chemical compounds etc.

I wouldn't recommend unprotected cells to most people. That said, most of my Li-Ion collection consists of unprotected cells, but I mostly use them in single cell lights that give a warning and/or shut down @ 2.75 Volts.
