Right behind you with a 6D Mag623 !!
I ordered

SurplusShed PL1072 Lens

PRECISION PCX ASPHERIC LENS 52MM DIA, 37MM FOCAL LENGTH
http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/pl1072.html

payed, they sent me an email
saying that they were out and I probably picked up an old link.

All I did was Google the part number and went to the first result.

Now the email offers me this part
PRECISION PCX ASPHERIC LENS 50MM DIA, 35MM FL

http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/pl1028.html

3 questions

#1 Will this other lens work in a ROP Mag?

#2 I've read in other threads about surplusshed doing the same thing to other people, ie. bait and switch
Should I just ell them to suck a lemon and get my money back?

#3 If I do tell them off then where do I get another lens????:ohgeez:

1st, don't expect to get good results using an incan bulb. LED's (CREE) work best.

The 50mm will work, bit not as good. I just bought a 52mm here, but it costs more.

i ordered the EXACT same lens...got the same message.....apparently its an old link. They dont carry them anymore (i got an email stating as such).

they refunded my money in less than a minute afterwards, very professional and fast service.

I was told the same thing so I took the 50mm x 35mm and used it with a Cree LED and it works great, you just need an o-ring under the lens to stop it rattling, you'll see what I mean if you get it. Aspheric lenses look terrible with incandescent globes though.

Aha!:duh2: No wonder the Apherical Mag custom builders on CPF have stop making them for customers.:ohgeez::ohgeez:

Surplusshed is the only place that sells them for $8
The other place sells them for $25.:sick2:

This cuts into everyone's budget & profit margins.

ROP will suck with an aspheric, you will see the filament projected, I've been using the 50 x 35 aspheric and it works great, the best use is with a Cree emmiter and no reflector, try it with a Q5 and be amazed.

Nitro, what holds the lens in the head of the mag? Does the stock mag bezel ring still work? Also, how to you set the correct distance between the LED and the lens.

The stock bezel works, but these are better, because they protect the lens.

The 50mm lens fits down inside the Mag head. I put about three O-rings between the top of the lens and bezel. This keeps it from rattling. You focus it by turning the head in and out. With it setup like this, you have to loosen the head almost all the way. Not ideal.

However, I just ordered a 52mm lens, which should work better. It will sit on top of the head, requiring only one or two O-rings. It should be focused with the head turned all the way in. The only issue I see is the Bezel may not protect the lens fully, because the 52mm is thicker.

Except that bezel really isn't readily available anymore. I have one of them on a mag623 and I'd like to keep it on that one. Do you know of a place where these are still being sold?

I believe that you're link above is refering to a 52mm for $28 dollars right. I don't think I'll mess with the 50 when the 52 makes for a better fit.

No problem for me there. I can just be careful with the exposed lens. Are the O-rings that you're using also measured as 52mm or are they inch measurement?

See KosPap's post above.

Right!

Not sure. They're the o-rings that come with MAG's. I just stole a couple from other lights.

Sorry. I still don't see why that's a bad thing.

Projecting an image of the filament coil is a fun thing to do, isn't it?

Maybe I'm not old enough or cynical enough to stop enjoying my hobby yet. Discussion ended.

If you just want to see a filiment or die, then focusing the lens is all you'll see. It's pretty useless for an actual flashlight, just a novelty flashlight. But if you defocus them you can get an even useful beam but with little spill.

Seeing the filament coil projected is fun, in sort of a boring way. It would be one thing if the projected coil was all of the focused light, then it would be very bright. Unfortunately, the reflector is projected light too, creating too much spill.

But hey, go ahead and knock your socks off. You may enjoy it for a minute or two, about as long as I did. ;)

well the original lens page has been updated with a notice that more pieces have been recieved:
http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/pl1072.html

Time to try it myself

UPDATE:

I did try buying but despie the reference that more pieces are available, the indeed out of stock.

They sugested the other lens (the 50mm diam one). as noted by other members here.

Hope I did not mislead anyone, kostas
