aspheric mag question

Hi I a making a 3D aspheric maglite and I will be using a cree Q5. I a going to be using a very large homemade heatsink. I was just wondering if I direct drive it at 4.5 volts without it blowing will it effect the bulb life or brightness?

can anyone help me with this?

You should use an AMC7135 board to limit the current. Otherwise you will see a very short part life.

4.5V as in three alks? Those should sag down to a safe level. You'll get better performance with NiMHs. A solid 4.5V without a current limiter would probably blow the P7.

3 D alks will wildly overdrive an XR-E.
