I recently received my Kl1 and am very happy with it. This is now my brightest LED after my LW4000. Its fit and finish are great. Under the Pyrex lens it is extremely clean. My only complaint is the glue which is clearly visible around the reflector. Although the beam produced from the LED is good, I just wonder if it would be more even and uniform if it wasn't for the glue exposed on the reflector. I believe that the glue is already present when Surefire receives the Luxeon unit. If this is the case, all the work performed by Surefire to produce the KL1 unit is fantastic. Too bad this glue gets on there during the Luxeon manufacturing. Do others who own the KL1 also have this glue? What are your inputs on this?

Hi Lightsaber. My KL1 has some little "bubbles" in it near the center. I suppose that's the glue that you spoke of. The beam from the KL1 is very smooth, so I don't think it's affected by the glue much.

Ps. The KL1 works fine on my E1e, but it doesn't work at all on my E2e! hmm...

My KL1 is clear...no bubbles, no smuges, no fingerprints, nothing...clear. Guess I got a good one.

Its not glue. Basically what happened is that who ever put the unit together had very bad judgement of using herculean strength when screwing the lens holder on to the LS. The force of the lens pushed down on the LS causes the silicon inside to seep out and go onto the botton of the NX-05 lens. This will also shorten the life of the LS. If anyone does not believe this is true, get a LS that can be thrown away and force the NX-05 lens onto the LS.

Arc mania

Or try grinding the LS lens flat until the goo comes out.

No goo, glue or anything else on my KL1. If mine looked like yours I would send it back, good beam or not. From what I've read on this board about Surefire C.S. it should not be a problem.

Uh-Oh - so I guess I should be more concerned than I already am ?

the serial no. of my KL1 is more than 2000 and i dun see this stuff, on the other hand my KL3 with serial no. 100+ has this goo in the lens.

I guess they were really rushing to get these stuff out, now that supply & demand has stabilise i guess the QC might be better

Lightsaber, what's the serial no. of your KL1?

The serial number on the KL1 I photographed is A02127. Well, guess I'm not the only one with goo!

SureFire parts are numbered during production and not during assembly so your serial number really has little to do with when it was released.

My KL3 does not have this problem

BUT my new KL1 got a bubble!
Is it true that the bubble will shorten the life of the LS? If so, I should contact surefire...

Thanks,
Billy
