I was just reading about the Corn Mazes and Cemetery tours on a couple of threads here on CPF and they sound like good times and also a great way to use, and show-off, one's lights. It also occurred to me that Autumn is a great time of year for us Flashoholics to really shine (Hehe :devil:) since daylight hours are much shorter now.

Seriously though, besides my night-time mountain- and road-biking, last week's Nuit Blanche event (ie. all-night art's fest) as well as the occasional meet-up with fellow CPF'ers, or even wandering around my home, I'm really hard-pressed to find ways to use many of my 20+ lights. And, sadly, my job doesn't require that I use lights.

So, I started to do some research to try and find some Flashoholic-friendly events... I initially signed-up for a "Ghost Tour" of a local jail that's been closed in my city; the tours were scheduled for the summer and was to take place after sunset so that any participants would have been required to bring along flashlights... Sadly, a city agency shut down the tour after only 2 weeks saying they never provided approval to run those types of tours. :thumbsdow:rant:I did end up taking a tour of the jail during the daytime and my HDS U60 did come in handy when I took a shot of a friend in one of the jail cells. Not quite the same as touring a jail in the dark with just flashlights...

Then, I found this Ghost Tour of the Buffalo Central Terminal taking place on October 30th... Just out of curiosity, have any Buffalo, New York CPF'ers, been to the Ghost Tour at the Central Terminal? The building is huge and looks fantastic so I figure this would be an amazing tour and a great chance to show off some lights. :D

So, CPF'ers, besides those who need to use lights in their everyday jobs, anyone else have any Flashoholic-friendly events they are participating in or know of? I'm looking for some cool ideas and I'm also curious to see how imaginative us CPF'ers can be with using our lights...

Found a place near here where they do geocaching and GPS rallies at night in the woods :twothumbs

That terminal building was featured on an episode of Ghost Hunters (shown on OLN here in Canada).

As you said it's huge....from what I saw on the show, definitely a place for flashlight use.

Meanwhile - on the other side of the world - it is now Spring and Summer is approaching. We are into daylight saving time and the days grow steadily longer. But apart from that bad news, the weather is getting better for camping and being out all night in a tent always provides a need for flash lights. I have recently received my H60w - I think I am going to really like this light on camping trips!

That's pretty cool... I found some really huge geocaching competitions in Europe ... too bad they haven't quite caught on here... :(

I saw the same episode but I had to wonder how much they allowed you to go through the building... Anyone been there yet? I'd be curious to hear about experiences...

Yeah, camping is always a great time to use my lights... it's getting a bit cold here to go camping on a regular basis but I'm stoked to do that in the spring! Have fun, take some beamshots with the H60w or let us know how you like it for camping.

Anyone else?

I don't think that the H60w is really a beamshots kind of light - there really isn't a beam to speak of. But don't worry - I've got plenty of lights with more than adequate beams to use as required. In fact due to a recent spend up I have 8 new lights this month so I will need to go camping as much as possible to play with them all. In a few weeks I will be going into a forest for a couple of days of camping & cooking and playing with lights - hopefully the weather will co-operate.

If you want a Geocache that will give you a lot of flashlight time, come to North Carolina and do Tube Torcher II.
