No idea what you'd call it, but I was picturing something in my head that I'd like to try and use. It looks like a 1" round reflector that instead of being cup shaped, is shaped like a cone. Like a circular pyramid that's chrome colored. Make any sense? I would like to place it directly in the center of a flashlight lens with the shiny side facing an led emitter, inward. I think some big spotlight type lights have something like this, they sometimes have a black dark spot right in the middle of the beam. Basically the idea is to take an led lightsource, run the light forward to this reflecty thing, which sends it back towards the light but in all directions. I'm thinking that if an led emitter type lightsource was inside say, a 6" reflector, it'd have to be way deep in order to collect any light and send it forward out the lens. Maybe if it had something to reflect back from, that was in front of it, into the big 6" reflector it'd get more out the front? Maybe I'm just high. I think it'd work.

I have a 6" reflector that's from a bulb type light, It's very shallow, like 1" deep. So I'm thinking there's no way to use an led in there. Unless I had something out front to send the light back and maybe spread it out a bit, back into the big reflector. Just kinda brainstorming, anybody think this would work or not work?

This has been done in various incarnations--here's one of them in an optic:
