Bare vs. anodized McLux-PR head

I have found that bare AL isnt TOO bad. Yes, it will get scratched alot easier, but yes, it will also polish very well.
I use "flitz" and it works wonders. If you just give her alittle polishing every so often, she will shine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What every one has said so far..... The black is a hard anodize and uses no pigments. The guy who is doing these parts for me has an 80' tank and does sail boat masts and other marine hardware; parts that see some pretty nasty exposure to the elements!

I have to second that the black HA is very nice. I also like the "look" of the bare Al head, so I'm wondering how it would look to have one just straight EN plated or bead-blast/EN combo like the original McLux head. What do you think Don?

I have located a plating shop about an hour away from my home who sounds to be able to do just about anything. The unfortunate part is that there is a minimum lot charge which precludes getting these heads done in different finishes. I like the looks of the raw Al and it allows folks to modify the head in shape and design if they want without cutting through a finish and having different colors. One could also sweet talk a local anodizer or plater into dropping the raw head into the next batch.
I really like the HA black as it provides a good durable finish, enhances thermal radiation or so I have been led to believe and of import, it provides an electrical isolation for the LED slug; a requirement on the DownBoy converters.
The next batch of PR heads which I hope to receive soon will be anodized. At this point, I am seriously considering having them done in HA3 natural instead of black. None of the McLux parts to date have been done in HA3 natural and I think it's about time this changes. Frankly, as time goes, more and more of the McLux heads will be hosted on SF bodies and it seems to me that having a reasonable color match with the SF would be desireable to many??!?!

I've prepared SF E1E and E2E in both natural and black HA for these heads so either finish is fine with me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif But I'm afraid people will be severe on the color/tint matching if you go with the HA3 natural.
In any way, I'm hoping the trimmed version to be anodized /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have also had that concern but when it comes to SF, I think (hope) most understand that the color is secondary to the function of the plating or anodizing! I personally don't mind the black mixed with the natural color and if in fact the black is better at radiating heat, I believe in function over looks. I have some E1e's and E2e's on order in HA black but they don't seem to be available in the states at present.

I agree that the function is what comes first here. The fact that these look great is just a bonus (some more bonus than others). I would like to find a plating shop that would do small batches, but I haven't looked yet.

If you're looking for a vote, I pick black. I was going to get a black one when they were available, but the money wasn't around while they were in the shop. Now I have an order ready (you gotta love being able to save your shopping cart); it's just waiting on (hopefully) black PR heads to show up.

Seems like a good time to jump in now (ignoring Tyler; sheesh! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) and say thanks guys! I think I'll just stick with the black HA. I know it works well, the anodizer is close by and the color black will go with just about anything.
