So far my little upgrade project is exceeding my perceived budget a bit since I didn't consider the convenience of charging "in pack" as allowed with the Fivemega pack solution.
This meant an extra 40 bucks shipped since I wanted a flexible smart charger I could use for other projects.
So far I'm looking at $172 Shipped not including host light or batteries.
So I don't want to screw up at this point and buy a bunch of batteries that won't do the job and then double that part of the expense.
Any advice on this?
My thinking has been the low loss enelope's 2000 MaH might be a possibly underpowered choice as I've been wanting to get some to try them out, but due to the high draw of this mod and limited run time I was thinking I should go for something along the lines of pwercell 2700's. But it's been a few years since I bothered to spend countless minutes getting up to speed on rechargables.
The runtime of this mod I've heard is about a useful 35 minutes or so with decent output. I want to maximize this with minimum loss if possible. Of course with Fivemega's nice charging jack I can top off every day if needed and this is a Toy light as much as anything else for me. Whats a good choice for maximum reliability and run time with minimum loss?
Also I was wondering if I need to beef up my switch on my incondescent host to handle the current on this Mod?

Heres what I've ordered so far.
From fivemega's wonderful one stop shopping (if your thinking of doing this save yourself some time and use advanced forum search for Fivemega username posted started by,.. And limit search to the B/S/T Buy sell trade section. Saved me some searching).
PR base to bi-pin socket (G4) $16
2X - Bi pin WA1185 Bulb $12
9AA to 3D Battery Pack $39
Cammed Black vlop $45
Total (Fivemega) $121 Shipped
From flashlightlens.com
Borofloat® Lens $11 Shipped
From Batteryspace.com
Smart Charger (9.6 - 18V CHun 180) $40 Shipped
Grand Total so far $172 Shipped
This doesn't include host light or batteries. I can see now why some would prefer to buy a nice polished version of this light for slightly over $200, since by the time im done with my investment it will be over that. In my case however I like to mess around with stuff, and the whole point is I want to mod my old beat up 3d Maglight I use at work for the Wow Factor without external advertisement. I also plan to do an LED mod version on another light for longer run times and a more usefull light for general use.
I'm also looking at stuff like the Fenix TK40 for a belt carry at work. I am only wary of reports that the tube walls appear to be very thin. But also I've seen hard use reviews where it reportadly stood up to alot of dropping and banging around with no damage..
Anyhow I digress. Give me your excellent battery suggestions. Apologies for the amount of caffiene I have already consumed today.:twothumbs
EDIT: If your looking to do similar I noticed that Fivemega also sells the Borofloat lens as an option I saw on the battery pack thread, this would have saved me not only money for the lens but the extra shipping. Get as much as you can from one supplier to minimize cost.
